Surprising when its been brought up on newsfeeds about the Cuba gig how many people have never heard of the Manics. The never been very well known even when popular. Remember all through the 90's having to go to gigs alone as work mates didn't know them, during the EMG/TIMT era you would get a few more but it died out after that:(

Manic Street Preachers dispute historic status of Rolling Stones' Cuba gig:

The Cuba thing to me sounds like a classic case of modern reporting. Of course, I would always side with the Manics especially given that last night the twitter of this forum uncovered a vested interest from the reporter on ITV news, a massive Stones fan would you believe!?

But as I say, sensationalism is the only way to go now. They could have easily tweaked what they wrote to something like:

Rolling Stones play enormous gig in Cuba to 40k people...

But of course that doesn't fit the mould of modern reporting that seems to need almost everything to be a historic and seismic event. It would get less retweets and all the rest of it. And it doesn't fit the narrative of those Stones fans who so desperately want the show to be something cool they can talk about down the pub. So this becomes:

Rolling Stones become first major band to play Cuba in historic gig...

Overall, it's just a reflection of the modern media I suspect. To prove the point, Tom Morello claimed the same thing as the Stones.

As a journalist... it's lazy reporting and trying to make something sound sexier than it is.

Someone will have thought "oooh, maybe this might be the first gig by a major western band in Cuba..." and then not bothered to properly research it before writing it.

The picture was taken 18 minutes in, and I started the album just as I crossed the start line...

I was somewhere in the midst of "Facing Page: Top Left"

Nice! Thanks.

I just watched Tsunami from TFI Friday, and realised the banners in the background read "Before Us Stands Yesterday" in Japanese...

That's very impressive, I must say. The band have always had an eye for Japanese culture.

Absolutely adore the video to Some Kind Of Bliss. Always have.

Someone, somewhere who is an absolute FIEND has deleted the Manics doing Found That Soul on CD:UK. Frankly that was one of only 3 reasons I go on YouTube. I wonder if Manic Street Mania might still have it to upload? :hohoho:

Needs sorting ASAP. That scream by James at the end is of fucking significant historical importance.
