Manics gig blogs
Hi all! I hope you will forgive me for a bit of shameless blog promotion :) I'm blogging about all the gigs I've ever been to, and there's going to be a lot of Manics posts, so I thought I'd make a thread where I could update you when there's a new one. Also if others have Manics-related blog posts, gig reviews etc, please share as i'd love to read them!
I've just written about Reading '97, which was bloody amazing, of course. Here's a link! And you can read all my Manics-tagged posts here. Would love to hear memories from others who've been to the same gigs as me! |
I've just put up a post about the Manics' first night at Wembley in December 1998, featuring much glee at the skipping prowess of Nicky :D Have a look!
My post about the second night at Wembley will be live next Weds :) |
Second night at Wembley now up here! Thanks FD for retweeting it :)
Manics at V99 should be up in eight weeks, then Manic Millennium in twelve weeks... |
Thanks for doing this - wish I'd kept notes like you had on the gigs I've been to. There haven't been any yet that I was also at, but having worn out my taped recording off the radio of the Nynex gig it's fascinating to hear what the whole day was like.

Thank you LA ex! :) I am very grateful for my incurable need to write things down! As I got older I started to write less and less about the gigs I went to, as I became more interested things other than music for a bit, and it's amazing just how much you forget. My blog posts for gigs between about 2004 and 2015 will probably be quite short because of that, but at least I've got a while yet before I get there!
|
My post about the Manics at V99 is now up here on my newly renamed blog!
Also many thanks to whoever runs the FD twitter for the retweet :) |
Thanks for that. I was also at Reading 97 - some great memories there. SFA, Kenickie, Strangelove etc good times.
|
Thanks :) Yeah, Reading 97 was pretty incredible - and I made it for both the Manics and Suede at that fest, unlike for V99!
|
Didn't see much of Suede - I was 1 of the 4 people watching the Boo Radleys in the tent.

Just found a comment on my blog from a few weeks ago from someone here called Kate! If that's you, thank you so much and apologies for apparently ignoring you, your comment got stuck in my spam filter. I've replied on the blog now! :)

I just had a read of a few of these. Really enjoyed them. I like your writing style, especially when you "hand over to your younger self". Nice amusing device.
Wembley 1998 was my first Manics experience so that brought back some incredible memories. I wasn't personally at Nynex 1997 but was listening to the live broadcast and taping it and have listened to it probably in the region of 1,000 times. It's my favourite live gig in terms of aggression, passion, sound quality and attitude. You sum it up perfectly describing Removables as 'darkly gleaming'. And, yes, that version of Yes is something spectacular. |
Thanks so much starfucker! :) It's great to have my old diaries to refer to, they really take me back to the moment of the gigs, with all the excitement and overuse of exclamation marks! Glad you enjoyed reading them. I'm taking a little blogging break at the moment but will hopefully have the Manic Millennium up early in May - now THAT was epic!
|
It's time for the Manic Millennium! Here's my blog post about that night, a little later than planned as I took some time off to get ready for moving home. Hope you enjoy it :)
All being well I should have my report on this weekend's Shepherd's Bush Empire gigs up by this time next week! Edit: And thank you once again FD for that very swift retweet :D |
My blog post about the Shepherd's Bush gigs is up here. FD gets a shoutout! :)
General opinion: Friday was brilliant, Saturday spoiled somewhat by idiots in the crowd, and ended on a low note with the news of the assault that occurred. |

Can you remember what James said about Lifeblood fans? I missed that ! |
