LONDON ASTORIA GIGS

The astoria is closing today. last ever gig, did anyone get to see the manics at this venue? if so do we have any memories from this?

I did'nt go to the gigs in question, but was happy to see them there on the SATT tour, its my favourite venue, i don't know why.

I'm attending the gig tonight, i hope its a good send off.

I went to the Christmas HB gigs. My memories are laughing when james walked offstage when his guitar packed in and richey realised that he left to play guitar on his own! To be fair he did ok and you could hear him despite all the stories about his guitar not being plugged in. James came on and gyrated his hips and said something about doing an "erotic dance for you". It was an intense atmosphere for all three gigs although James did try and lighten the mood wearing a Santa hat. And then off course on the final night they trashed the equipment. Richey kept hitting himself in the face with a microphone stand which was unerving to watch. Sean did look really pissed off but then he often does!

Was he getting fed up of people continually asking for Sleepflower to be played even back in those days!?:P

I'm so jealous of anyone that attended the 1994 gigs.... :)

Yeah it seems an age ago. Well it is 15 years I suppose !

Astoria and LA2 were the worst venues I ever went to. For the Manics gig in 2007 I stupidly wore a tie and blazer and subsequently ended up caked in sweat. I wasn't going to go near the front but when they came on and started with Stay Beautiful I got carried away and pushed my way as close to the front as possible. I'd virtually spilt my entire pint of lager over myself by the end of the second song!

Yeah, I saw them on the recent tour. Amazing gig, such a smallish venue and you felt so close to them on stage. Very sweaty though, and I had to run for my train ;).

Although I remember being so excited that it took me a good half song to realise what they were opening with was not You Love Us, It was Stay Beautiful, and having to change the text I had already sent to Jeanette
