I haven't seen 1 Real, 2 Real or 3 Real. Will I understand what's happening in this one?

baleofhey 05-08-2019 20:41

Angelo Muscat would have been perfect in the role of Sean

Hmmmn. 1 Real was the best. 2 Real was uncomfortable...all a bit real y'know. 3 Real was starting to feel repetitive.....

Y'know you've a problem when at first mention the band say No interest and no comment Maybe you'd want to approach them with your idea first before you announce your project but little details like that don't seem to bother some do they...

What's the ill feeling for Withdrawn Traces about? I haven't read it, and know little about it... wasn't that the one that had his sister's input?

Agree.
But studio Ghibli, on the other hand....
Ah... A girl can dream...

I doubt this will ever be made. There are a lot of obstacles between 'working on a project' and 'invite to the premiere'. The band's resistance to it will likely put off financial backers and I doubt they would agree to allow original tracks to be used. So there would be the scene of Nicky and Richey writing the nascent Motorcycle Emptiness, but you wouldn't be able to hear it.

On the other hand, if it was made, it would no doubt unleash the band's venom, which is something I would certainly pay to watch!

I just sighed when I first heard about this. If it does ever get made, it will be a film equivalent of an "unauthourised" documentary (which are invariably shit). I can see this being even worse than Last Days by Gus Van Sant about Kurt Cobain.

On the positive side though, if it gets the next generation of music fans into Richey's lyrics, that's not a bad thing.

There's a huge thread about it here:

That would be amazing... thanks for just putting the idea of a Ghibli Manics movie in my head.

One of the first things I wondered was if it'd have ersatz-Manics tracks with two or three notes different in the melodies to avoid legal issues, could be unintentionally funny at least... maybe...

Of course it couldn't possibly ever match the legendary masterpiece that is... Shadow Pico.

As with anything, there's potential. If it's something in the style of Control I think it could be great, if it's something that shows a bit of his early life, him joining the band and the hightlights of his career in the band. Who knows.

For what it’s worth I see the director called it a ‘portrait’, which suggests something on a smaller scale than some kind of Rocketman style biopic.
