Guns N' Roses support slot setlist

I thought this subject deserved a thread of its own separate to the other tour prediction setlist as it's such a massive dream come true for the band.

Guns N' Roses have been my favourite band since I was six years old and to hear the Manics are supporting them made me start thinking will they tailor their support slot towards GN'R fans who might not have heard of the Manics (probably a bit - they'd be mad not to)?

So, here's my thoughts. I'm guessing the support slot will be around 45 mins to an hour.

They have to play Motorcycle Emptiness and A Design for Life. Those two are a stone cold given.

It would be funny if they ended with their cover of It's So Easy as that's usually Guns N' Roses' opener. Or maybe open with it? But, realistically, would they feel a bit awkward playing it in front of one of their main early inspirations / heroes?

If I was in charge of the setlist, I'd go for this:

1. Motorcycle Emptiness (lead guitar riff will appeal to Slash fans)
2. Slash N' Burn (with Slash)
3. Stay Beautiful (GN'R fans love shouting "Fuck off")
4. A Design For Life (they can't not play it, save the heavier stuff for the rest of the set)
5. Faster
6. A Billion Balconies (with Duff)
7. You Love Us (Punky, catchy tune that may stick in the minds of some GN'R fans that have never heard of the Manics)
8. Broken Algorithms (could almost have been written specifically for a GN'R support slot)
9. International Blue (they need to plug the new album and will need to play this one)
10. Paradise City AND Sweet Child O' Mine intro into Motown Junk.

I really don't think Ocean Spray, Tolerate or Show Me the Wonder would appeal to the demographic of GN'R fans who have never heard of the Manics, but I know what you mean. Autumnsong is a good shout though as the intro is basically ripped off of Sweet Child O' Mine.

To be fair, this song shouldn’t appeal to the GNR demographic either but that’s never bothered Axl.

Just send Nicky out to entertain the crowd with some drunken anecdotes.

That new Wales Online interview quotes James saying they’re going to lean to the heavier side of their back catalogue for those gigs.

They should play their more rockier stuff and really have a blast doing it. You know there's gonna be the ones that they'll always play like Design, Tolerate, Sun, Motorcycle... IB from the new album would be best.
I remember when they supported Foo Fighters in 2008, a lad I used to talk to at work back then said he was very impressed with the Manics and even their rocking cover of Umbrella too! So, you never know how it'll go for the Manics.

1. Motorcycle Emptiness
2. You Stole The Sun
3. Sleepflower
4. Sequels of Forgotten Wars
5. Archives of Pain
6. Slash 'N Burn
7. Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
8. International Blue
9. Design For Life
10. Tolerate

With this setlist I would be even tempted to go one these gigs :)

Motorcycle Emptiness, Design For Live, Tolerate, You Love Us and You Stole The Sun are pretty much certainties.

I'm guessing they'll do have to do one off the new album (European Blue?)

So giving the rest I'd suspect one off GT (Slash n Burn/Stay Beautiful/Love's Sweet Exile/Condemned to Rock n Roll)
One off the Holy Bible
Two mid career rocky one (Australia/Masses/Tusnami/Your Love Alone/Found That Soul/Walk Me to Bridge)

One can only hope that JDB will scream "Gimme some reggae" halfway thru "Slash N Burn" then proceed to do the "Madonna drinks coke..." bit in a SKA / dancehall stylee.

Europa Geht Durch Mich seeing as the concerts are taking place in Germany? Ending with Condemned to Rock and Roll and You Love Us maybe?

Motorcycle Emptiness / Faster / Your Love Alone is Not Enough / A Design For Life / Europa Geht Dirch Mich / International Blue / Motown Junk (Sweet Child / Paradise City intro) / If You Tolerate This / Condenmned to Rock N Roll / You Love Us

I hope a decent quality set ends up on YouTube
