Also, (to keep the distressing stuff separate from the hilariously bad stuff), I’ve read a little further on, and Richey is predicting Brexit now!

Was Richard telling us he felt cheated by the other band members? Are the lyrics to No Fun telling us how alienated they were making him feel? No fun to be alone/Walking by myself. Let's look at every track by the Sex Pistols for clues. Holiday in the Sun...[write something about the reference to Belsen and Richey's striped pyjamas look]."

That could've been half chapter's worth of word count.

hahaha!
LOLZ

The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am that they mentioned that at all.

As a psychologist myself when trying to diagnose BPD it is standard for one to ask about early childhood abuse. If this is denied by the client, that should be the end of it and other diagnoses should be considered. For example, I have had many cutters as clients and they were all profoundly severely depressed. One should not be pigeonholed into a diagnosis just because they meet ONE criteria. For that matter, no diagnosis should be made until several tests, observations, and interviews are conducted. A diagnosis should NEVER be made from one answer to a question.

Yes, sorry. I should have said it seems... possible he had BPD.

Is there any end to his prophetic genius?

Ah, no, don’t worry, if that was his diagnosis at The Priory, that seems somewhat reliable, I was just pointing out that the causes cannot be assumed, and also just how shitty I feel it was to include such a vague but threatening insinuation in the book.

Yes Glass Angel. I agree with you. I hope the priory made their BPD diagnosis based on several factors. Often psychs do not like giving this diagnosis as it’s a personality disorder and not a clinical one like depression and seems to remit in later years. Because it’s a personality disorder it is extremely hard to treat. Think pedophilia. Scientists have researched things such as chemical castration, physical castration, clockwork orange types of treatment and none work so far. Doesn’t mean we won’t discover anything we just haven’t. Same with Antisocial Personality Disorder. There has been some research that has shown some positive evidence like DBT and CBT to treat BPD but that is still in its infancy. Due to these factors if I get a BPD client, I typically refer out to a specialist and try to treat the depression.

Glass Angel, what a hard ordeal you must have had trying to get help. Plenty of people who were sexually abused and cutters do not warrant the label of BPD

I also hate that the band has been slogged off by SRH. I have forgiveness for Rachel. The band was basically only kids and they believed going on tour would enable them to monitor him. They did what they thought was the right thing and probably was as his loved ones were scared he would lock himself in his apartment again.

As for “borrowing “ a line from someone else. I believe Nicky did the most egregious one by using “trade all your heroes for ghosts”. A line from the wonderful song Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. It seems i read somewhere you could borrow a line based on the word count. Does anyone know anything about this.

That’s a bit harsh. How many of us weren’t embarrassing teenagers!

Thanks Vaiden, psychiatry (or at least my experience of it) has come a long way in 20 years! I ended up with a diagnosis of Generalised Anxiety Disorder, maybe with some OCD features. It’s fairly under control these days.

Anecdotally, I had a friend at university who was diagnosed with BPD, she went to an intensive DBT programme, and it certainly helped her a great deal, at least in the short term (we lost touch about a year after she finished the programme).

Lol. Still interested in where she is now. I saw pics of her and Jessica (?). A few posters said one of them is a model now(?).

I also want to know what happened to Shampoo?

Am I the only who's never sure if people are quoting directly from the book or parodying it?
