For non-Brits/Europeans: here's the link to the US pre-order for the 3 disc edition. Unless you have a region-free DVD player, the European edition will be PAL and won't play on N American NTSC players.

EDIT: Actually it's an Import which is a bit concerning because the DVD may very well be in PAL format after all. Shit!

So is everything on the 3-disc version also on the deluxe box set edition?

yep, all "bonus DVDs" coming with CDs or box sets appear to be region 0, NTSC things. i am not sure that PAL / NTSC is all that much of an issue anymore, everything plays everything these days.

if you happen to have a 10 year old DVD player then it might be a struggle, but then again you can always get lots of free software that allows you to decrypt and recode a DVD, burning to a blank in whatever format / zone you wish for.

the track listings suggest that there's nothing exclusive to the 2 CD, 1 DVD set (expect it being signed on the Play version), with their being the extra CD on the deluxe box.

However the completist in me has to have it.

well, since you put it like that.........

in an unusual move for me, both the box and the booklet look rather pretty, and the pricing of it is excellent. too good to turn down, really. i think the amusement factor of Sony not fucking over the fans with either content or price meant i had to take advantage, fuck knows if we will ever see them being so condescending again.

I'm sort of wondering about whether I should get the shoebox as well. I really could do without the vinyl cack and I'm not too massively bothered about the book either, plus the normal special edition would go nicely with the EMG/THB ones. But... the 3rd CD has the b-sides and that's pretty important to me. £45 isn't the end of the world but it's still more than £15. Uhh, don't know.

cricri 23-10-2012 09:38

I just received the Manics newsletter and it says that only 3000 copies of this special GT reissue will be available worldwide.
I have no experience whatsoever regarding exclusive Manics stuff, so I don't know what to make of the ''only 3000 available'' statement. Do you reckon I should buy it fairly soon?
No bitchy remarks like ''They won't even sell 3 copies, let alone 3000'', please, as mine is a serious question.
Thank you.

UEF 23-10-2012 09:54

Considering you can still buy the PFAYM tatbox, the National Treasures tatbox, and the "ultra limited and deleted on day 1" Masses Against the Classes CD, I'd say you should be alright.

cricri 23-10-2012 09:58

Even tho this is considerably cheaper than the ones you mentioned? :(

Dancing Kirby 23-10-2012 10:44

They don't take your money until they send it and the price won't ever go down with it being an official site exclusive, so if you're going to buy it, now's as good a time as any. I don't think it will sell out this year, but I'm not 3,000 people.

It says on the Rough Trade site that the vinyl is limited to 1,000. That won't sell out either.

PS. On the same site, it also says this:

Quote:

'generation terrorists' remastered and re-booted
What's that supposed to mean? I take it their definition of rebooted isn't the same as mine.

Pre-ordered the 2CD/DVD last week but finding myself wanting the box more and more... Can't justify an extra £30 when all I really want is the b-sides though, everything else would just be niceties.

Allow me to disagree, now is not a good time for my pockets

Well, that's half the fun of being irresponsible with credit cards.

I've been umming and aahing for the last week or so, considering that I'll be out of a job in the next few days. But fuck it, the bloody dole can cover the cost of the box set for me..... I don't pay my taxes for nothing you know!
