Manics Newspaper and magazine appearances II
Starting this again cos a search for it brought up no matches. If i've missed it by all means shout at me and merge it :p
http://www.theguardian.com/music/201...reet-preachers JDB soundtrack of my life posted today on the guardian website.. Interesting selection.. my favourite has to be the nina simone track. Also what were the 2 experiences in london that he thought *this isn't the way they do it back home* :) |
 James must be doing something right; he's getting lots of praise in the comments underneath that Guardian article, which is a rarity on there! This story in particular made me go 'aww':

Other than including Last Christmas at the expense of Motorcycle Emptiness and Tsunami over Tolerate, it's safe enough.
If I were to objectively choose 10 career-spanning choices for newcomers, it wouldn't be much different... Motown Junk You Love Us Motorcycle Emptiness From Despair to Where La Tristesse Durera Faster A Design For Life If Tou Tolerate This The Masses Against the Classes Your Love Alone is Not Enough |
Nice to see Let's Go To War in that list, for what it's worth
|
Saw the Manics featured on two pages in the NME today when I picked it up just to see if the Manics were in. One piece was a few questions about Christmas and then there was a full page review on their Glasgow gig.

Just read the They're Not Like Us comic besides the title From Despair To Where there is two more manics mentions. The first line of the comic is "I live to fall asleep" and the final page just reads "Twenty-one years of living and nothing means anything to me" attributed to Richey. https://imagecomics.com/content/view...re-not-like-us

This month's Mojo has the Manics in their regular 'How To Buy' feature in which readers vote for their top 10 albums by an artist. In reverse order, ladies and gentlemen, we have:
10. Postcards From A Young Man 9. This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours 8. Rewind The Film 7. Know Your Enemy 6. National Treasures 5. Generation Terrorists 4. Journal For Plague Lovers 3. Futurology 2. Everything Must Go 1. The Holy Bible Don't shoot the messenger! |
So the people have spoken. Postcards is more popular than Lifeblood, Send Away The Tigers, Gold Against The Soul, Forever Delayed and Lipstick Traces.
(Though I guess National Treasures arguably supersedes Forever Delayed) In terms of what to buy first, I think I'd stick National Treasures first. Then I'd say to the listener, which tracks did you like, they're from this album. Go and discover. |
National Treasures could have easily been substituted for SATT or GATS.
If they are going through the compilation cheat, then "Lipstick Traces" is the better album than FD or NT. I'm hoping an effect of "No Manifesto" is it might make the music press suddenly remember SATT had some great songs. And I would have ranked KYE higher than EMG as well. |
A greatest hits in a how to buy feature?? Surely thats the bleedin' obvious thing to go for if you arent sure about a band

Good article in The Sun today on missing people with Rachel Edwards, she saying how disapointed she was with the Police and how, when a young man goes missing they wait 3 days as opposed to 24 hours if its a child or woman. Also saying about Richey putting the crook lock on his car and letting his battery run flat.
