The Official 'Oh My God I heard the Manics on the TV/Radio' Thread II

I presume the old one got deleted, as I can't find it anywhere...so here's a new one!

I just heard Show Me The Wonder on James Martin: Home Comforts on BBC1. Random

Miss Pear 18-01-2015 22:58

Walk Me To The Bridge on the snooker tonight. We were actually there for it and they played it on the monitors above the table - WMTTB in the background of waffle from JV and Nugget.

A few days ago in a café I heard Anthem. That surprised me pretty much, never expected to hear anything of them in a such a random situation here in Korea. The Manics aren't too obscure here either, but it is certainly not the music you'd expect to hear randomly at a random shop.

everlasting 19-01-2015 08:44

Heard them the other day at work in the shopping centre, it was Tolerate. It faded out towards the end of the "aaaaahhh" part. Was cool to hear them.

Nobody 19-01-2015 19:08

Motorcycle Emptiness is on Absolute Radio right now :D

Strawberry 19-01-2015 19:34

They just played a bit of A Design For Life on Coronation Street.

Porco 21-01-2015 23:38

Bits of Golden Platitudes and It's Not War… just used as background music on BBC Two's 'Super Cars Vs Used Cars: The Trade Off' (!)

River Boy 22-01-2015 21:30

Was surprised to hear Emigre on the radio the other day at work (a week on Tuesday I think), but as I was in a meeting I never got to ask what station. Probably Radio 2 or 6.

And again on a different episode on BBC2 at the moment, someone at the BBC must really like it.

Comrade Mike 26-01-2015 17:43

Australia was used on This Morning this, er, morning for something about... Australia.

onqpr 02-02-2015 19:00

pointless appearance again, songs which had won the ivo novello music award,
a design for ...... (Manic street preachers)
Can anyone fill in the blank??

Porco 02-02-2015 19:18

OK, this is a bit tenuous, but every time this ad is on TV right now:

http://youtu.be/onBVg97j3B8

I can't help replying to the TV, 'No, It's not war...!'

gracie 16-02-2015 20:37

A Design for Life on Corrie!!!

Strawberry 21-02-2015 10:05

They're playing If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next now. On Frank Skinner's radio programme on Absolute Radio.

LIPSTICK TЯACES 24-02-2015 00:27

La Tristesse Durera earlier on Radio 2

Bambi 24-02-2015 22:00

James has just been on BBC2 Wales' Michael Sheen's Valleys Rebellion, as mentioned in the newspaper/magazine appearance thread, talking about the Chartist uprising and the Manics' beginnings as a band. He also did The View From Stow Hill solo, sat a table in Blackwood Miners' Institute, a short amount of which was shown initially and then also played over the end credits. Good programme too, with an emotional punch.

On Come Dine With Me on Wednesday, one of the contestants was Welsh. And they played a bit of the opening riff from A Design For Life when she made her starter.

Strawberry 07-03-2015 08:27

They just played A Design for Life on Frank Skinner's radio programme.

pineapple 09-03-2015 20:21

If You Tolerate This was the starter question in the music round on University Challenge.....for a while it looked like none of them knew it!

Finn 09-03-2015 20:21

Tolerate was a 'starter question' on this evening's University Challenge.
<Edit> SNAP!

Not TV or radio, but I was stuck in traffic on the M6 today, girl passed me in an open top car with From Despair... blasting out of her car stereo (might've been the radio). I was so impressed I found Motown Junk on my iPod, turned it up and rolled down my window...

that's a good show to keep an eye on. Not being able to rely on TOTP footage you get appearances on shows long forgotten

Abstract Unknown Girl 06-04-2015 15:29

Removables was just on Flog It on BBC1. How random!

James 10-04-2015 18:28

Nick Naysmith on The One Show playing with Jimmy Somerville!

Deets 16-04-2015 15:38

YLAINE on the local radio around 9am. made my day

Abstract Unknown Girl 17-04-2015 21:15

Not TV/radio, but I was in Boots in Leeds this afternoon and Show Me The Wonder was playing.

Automatik 17-04-2015 21:32

Chronologically speaking the last Manics song I heard played in a shop et al was Your Love Alone. Nothing else from PFAYM, RTF or Futurology. (Though I heard Walk Me To The Bridge and - oddly - Europa Geht Durch Mich on the radio a few times last summer.)

I still hear Tolerate now and again.

Porco 02-05-2015 21:33

ADFL on Match of the Day just now.

'As we are told that this is the end' seems prophetic right now...

For Newcastle, yeah...! I'm watching it too. Good to hear some Manics, once the darlings of MOTD with those shiny mid-90's 'rock anthems' about class war, loneliness and death!

Abstract Unknown Girl 03-05-2015 09:10

Forgot to post this at the time, but I was walking round Trinity shopping centre in Wakefield the other week and ADFL was blasting out. Still gave me goosebumps!
