A Soundtrack To Complete Withdrawal

Here we go again, same old story with the Manics, isn’t it?

WHY WASN’T THIS ON THE ALBUM?!

Haven't heard it yet, but... have they done another Bag Lady?

Interesting vocal melodies, cool retro synths, probably the most original thing from this album era. So OF COURSE they leave it off the album proper.

*bangs head against wall*

Their songs always sound more interesting/less made for Radio 2 with Loz Williams at the helm.

Or anyone other than Davd Eringa. Sorry Dave M8 but it's been the same story ever since GATS.

This is now the closing track on the album as it should've been for me!
Absolutely love it!!

Yep, love that bass synth!

I do like this. It has a bit of a Japan influence, which I am very much in favour of.

I adore Concrete Fields, I think it is one of the most charming things they have done. A companion piece to Mr Carbohydrate, and I love the steal from the Terry Jacks classic:D

I love it too, and as for the Japan influence, I was immediately reminded of this (especially from around 1:16 in):

Could some kind soul explain why this track is so good to me over a PM? I would appreciate it greatly...!

FacelessSenseOfVoid 13-04-2018 18:06

Why this wasn't on the album in place of The Left Behind or even something like Broken Algorithms I don't know - would have been an absolute highlight.

What a track, I've been listening to it on repeat all day. Sounds a bit like one of the Futurology bonus tracks with a slight Lifeblood vibe but a lot better than any of the Futurology bonus tracks. Reminds me of a fleshed out version of The Chauffeur by Duran Duran in places. I would very much welcome material like this for their next album. Really hope it's a sign of things to come.

I'm feeling positive about this one at the moment but it's no empty motorcade which really is one of the best songs they've ever made. Really like concrete fields though.

Just seen that it’s on my iTunes of the album. I am an idiot. (And I don’t think it’s so great...)

Lee 13-04-2018 22:22

Its nice.

It’s better than Vivian and The Left Behind, but they’re the only two songs on the album inferior to it.
