a quick google search gives us "friend" as the last word, and it's from a song by elliott smith.

Yes, it's from Television's See No Evil, and the first name of the wonderful Mr Verlaine is Tom, by the way. I reckon he should have used the lines that follow (I understand all/destructive urges/ it seems so perfect).

Nicky's been using some quotes from the songs that were played before the band came to the stage.

Soul Singer In A Session Band? That's pretty much the worst Bright Eyes song ever.

I'd really love to see this filled up, so I'm bumping it back up :)

And is it just me or Nicky was getting slightly melancholic for the last dates?

edit: whoops, i fucked up and didn't see the updates, so no need for bumping, lol.

Well done!!
The quote on the setlist ends at moment...
And it is Don Van Vilet...and ive never heard of them either :P

Marcellin Caillou 15-06-2007 18:07

Don Van Vliet is Captain Beefheart. For those people who saw the Leicester gig, maybe they have a bit of a Beefheart fixation at the mo'.

The setlist my younger son was given after the gig. The quote is:

Quote:

“The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more unbearable.”

KURT VONNEGUT
Although the actual quote from Vonnegut is "... more bearable."

Wonder if that was deliberate or not?

Leicester (De Montford Hall) 8/6/2007 -

"Last cigarettes all you can get - turning your orbit around" J Tweedy.

I think this is from a song by Wilco (Jeff Tweedy is the frontman/founder member), but I don't know much more than this... can anyone expand?

You are correct. It's from the song Jesus, etc from the excellent Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album. I think I'll go and put it on now

Amanda 15-06-2007 20:50

thanks everyone have updated again, only four to go now :D

I think you were right James but can scan it in tomorrow along with cardiff 2 and bristol if thats any good.

Tristan 16-06-2007 14:34

I saw one of the setlists and it had this Bertrand Russel quote on it:

"I believe in using words, not fists. I believe in my outrage knowing people are living in boxes on the street. I believe in honesty. I believe in a good time. I believe in good food. I believe in sex."

No idea where it was though! It stood out as a good one.

I think the numbers refer to keyboard settings for that particular song.

Well, he actually sings la tristessa (which is some of the worst pronounced French I've ever heard), so maybe the title has grown into this. That's no excuse for the spelling though, but perhaps an explanation.
