The Great Western and its bsides are so so so much better than anything the Manics have done since Lifeblood (JFPL aside)

Except Say Hello To The Pope. Bad song. But better than Autumnsong.

I like the music but not the lyrics.
|
I like the lyrics because its story telling for a change, one of the few Manic songs I can understand lyrically
|
"Masses Against the Classes" is a grunge song and/or could've been written by the Foo Fighters
|
I'm not sure if I am actually excited about the forthcoming tour or merely going through the motions.
Or is that just the band? |
With the events in the Crimea and Russia, I can't help but imagine James and Nicky on pushbikes peddling round to each venue and crossing out the backwards "R" on the posters.
"Let's bring back the backwards 'R' he said... It'll be iconic he said..." "Oh shut up and scribble! We've got the whole of Europe to do after we finish the ones in the UK!" |

On a whim I decided to watch the No Manifesto trailers & outtakes on YouTube and there's one I'd previously missed, just 40 seconds of Nicky noodling away on his bass. In perhaps the only time I've ever had cause to thank the usually moronic/unreadable user comments, someone identified that he's playing Strawberry Switchblade's 'Since Yesterday'. Having not heard it (and only being vaguely aware of the band) I've been listening to it, and it really is a fucking lovely slice of mid 80's indie-inclined pop music. Very Nicky Wire. How well known is it?

Looking forward to traveling to the gigs with my friends more than to the actual gigs. (but a tiny part of me hopes the Manics will win me over again on this tour. I won't buy the album.) |

I cannot wait for any music from the album to appear!

Today my German teacher corrected me in my homework, as I had put Nicky as male. She thought he was female… I almost died laughing. But in her defence, the picture of Nicky in my homework was him in that flowery dress.

1) The band have been rehearsing THB and when we actually get to the gigs we'll get the whole thing
2) There'll be some kind of announcement that will serprise everyone 3) Sean'll be in leopard print, James in a dress and Nick in camo gear and Holy Bible make-up |
Being an immigrant to Canada, I struggled to find friends who ever heard of Manics.
I started persuading one friend to pay attention to Manics (he is a fan of Neil Young, Pink Floyd and John Lennon) I gave him different compilations only with limited success. Recently, I gave him RTF and somehow he LOVED it. I guess it is our age that bring connection to the lyrics. One night, they had a little party for ~30 people and lot of them are musicians. They had a little stage in living room, where they sang and played some songs. Suddenly, my friend said: This is just for my friend … who likes Manic Street Preachers. He played guitar and sung The Sullen Welsh Heart and his wife followed with voice and on keyboards. It was so much fun. (That is all. ) |
That was very sweet of your friend. :)

Anyone reckon that with absolutely no news on release date yet that it's going to be released suddenly online one day. Futurology /digital and all that...

"What was 'Walk me to the bridge' called before James intervened?"

I wonder if anyone else saw all the similarities and parallels between SONY label mates Green Day and the Manic Street Preachers. I remember reading about how the manics were listeining to springsteen then green day was. manics have an album called know your enemy, guess what, gd had a song titled that. they also made a cover of working class hero. someone somewhere tried to make a manics clone in the form of green day. look it up its all true lol
|
i truly believe that sony tried to play the green day trio off the manics trio, it was obvious and egregious
|
It was a hot and joyous day of early spring. Cherry blossoms all over the river banks and a sky so clear, no trace of a cloud. And as I was riding my bicycle while listening to various Manics' b-sides randomly, there it goes - Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. So perfectly fitting the weather. Hey, did my phone made a sort of an April Fish to me or something? It was good anyway.

I'm wondering if Futurology (the song) is any good as a studio album track? I listen and listen and listen to the live versions and I can't hear anything of greatness in it. It just comes across as a bit meh.
