Terrible support bands. One is supremely annoying, one endlessly boring and one is just... noisy. In the wrong way.

Otherwise I have no words for how happy this makes me!

Oh damn it, of course they're coming here now that I made plans for that week just a few days ago.

Europa Gluten Free 20-02-2018 19:32

What is the nearest airport? Helsinki?

Cyle 20-02-2018 19:40

Jyväskylä has an airport but I'm not sure what the deal is with international direct flights. If there aren't any, you can definitely catch a flight from Helsinki though a train may work just as well.

I know this gig ain't exactly the hottest topic on this forum, but... Exactly one month to go now!

My hotel is all sorted and I'm well chuffed for finding amazingly cheap train tickets too! Return journey for €26, whereas the usual price for one way is around €45-55!

As a rule festival gigs aren't something I look forward to but since this is all I'm getting I'm making the most of it for sure!

Loved seeing them for the first time since 2014, when the child I now left with a babysitter for the first time ever for a night out, was not born yet. They played a lot of old stuff, only three(?) from Resistance is Futile -- sorry, I was on too much of a natural high from being there that I didn't bother keeping track. Mostly writing this to show someone was there (around 4000 other middle-aged people were there too)!

I mean, it was a bit strange when there was no Nicky but hey, when you live in Finland, you don't complain.

Kapris 15-06-2018 22:51

... they played Faster though.

Hope they were well received. Shame Nicky isn't there still though :(

Kapris 18-06-2018 04:25

There is a surprisingly keen although tiny following even in Jyväskylä in itself since the nineties and I think the Manics have always been quite well received everywhere in Finland. No noisy drunks in the audience this time either, mostly people in their 40's that I am sure were pleased to hear the old hits and understood reasons for Nicky's absence. To be honest I was very surprised that they came to a small local festival in Jyväskylä, but personally I could not be happier.

Oh but we're very lucky over here. Five gigs in four years, give or take a month.

Review of the gig on the website of Soundi (one of the country's biggest music mags).

In a nutshell for non-moonspeakers, a very positive review. Complimented the sound and lights, Wire's absence noted though the reason is explained, and setlist was a good mix of hits and "more experimental album cuts". The highlights of the gig were "the evergreens": You Stole the Sun, Tsunami and Tolerate (the latter of which was the peak of the concert). Ends by saying that the band's magic doesn't lie in any nostalgia, but in sheer musical strength.

"Moon speakers" :) Always good to see a positive review

With Nicky being absent I wasn't too excited at the beginning of the gig - I was worried it was going to be a half-hearted run through of the biggest hits.

But I was proven very wrong. James did an incredible job lifting this gig among my top Manic gigs I've been to. I was so pleasantly surprised to hear some rarities like Horses Under Starlight and Let Robeson Sing. The Songs from the RIF also sounded unexpectedly good live.
