I wonder if it was the alleged/insinuated affair that made it Sun worthy..!.. or the move to 'uddersfield...:)

Thinking back, I'm sure there was a story a year or two ago about James being spotted at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. I guess it must have been part of a trip to visit Sean in hour new abode.

Tim 07-02-2021 20:06

That's a bit of a shock about sean and i've kept up with manics news for the most part but i guess like everyone else here i don't consider the sun to be worthy loo paper let alone adequate reading material.

hummingbird 07-02-2021 21:23

Commute to their club house bit far from Huddersfield. Sean must really like his car :p

Aww if that is the case it is a bit sad. Eyebrow piercing. Tattoo? Midlife crisis? However I have the utmost respect and liking for Sean so I will leave his private life to being just that.

raven 13-02-2021 16:23

After a little speculating on midlife crises etc....

Good call and i find so much of adam curtis' films are manics adjacent anyway but this new one especially so, though i'm only up to episode 2 which includes a fantastic use of a mekons track (where were you?). Generation terrorists is loaded with the themes you'll find in this series with methadone pretty immediately springing to mind.

Tim 19-02-2021 20:58

Speaking of connections between manics and adam curtis' latest, there's a superb sequence at the end of part 4 that's set to the johnny boy track "you are the generation that bought more shoes and you get what you deserve". Produced by james of course, so the circle is becoming complete! I think i have the single somewhere.

LA ex 20-02-2021 20:13

Following on from the news that Sean lives in Huddersfield, I was out and about in one on the villages on Huddersfield's outskirts today when I spotted a high spec car which had the number plate "M10 JNK"

Unfortunately my excitement that I'd spotted Sean in the wild and he had a rather ridiculous Manics themed numberplate turned to disappointment when the driver appeared and wasn't him. Could have been his Dad I guess but wasn't Sean.

If James has sang again with The Anchoress then that's out in a few weeks.
Probably more Manics stuff announced on same day or after.

KYE released 19 March 2001. Do they ever release on the same day of the anniversary or is it just kinda same year-ish?

He was picked for a second chance or something like that, by a "backstage judge" or whatever they call him. I don't watch the show so not familiar with all the details.

Aaah cool. Don't think they do that on the UK version..don't watch it much either

Tim 24-02-2021 22:21

Music reaction videos on youtube are a curious thing, i've watched a few and wondered if the manics ever crop up... There's not a great deal but this guy trying to get his friend in to them hasn't been going so well.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...hmdLI9y17pAfA4

Can you guess which track unlocked the band for him? :eh:

This, though, is a good one for how it opens up their discussion about body issues but what a hell of a first track to start with.

Really??? REALLY?????????? At least something did I guess!

I've subscribed to see what else he plays. I've seen a couple other channels doing this sort of thing with the manics that's been good. I think I've mentioned them in the thread but didn't provide any links. I'll see if I saved them.

He should've shown the videos for all the singles rather than concentrate so much on the lyrics, agree with the bearded guy that you need to just listen to a song on the first go and absorb the song rather than worry about what's being said.

Saw in the comments of 'the winning song' ( still shocked ) he loves lifeblood so I'll forgive all the biographical mistakes :p

I know, right? I've done my fair share of ragging on their more unchallenging, poppy stuff along with everyone else but it brings in the punters much the same way you stole the sun gets a crowd moving. Picking tracks out of context from the holy bible to try and get a pal excited about them is not a strategy likely to work, with a vid edited together full of horrific imagery no less.

Proof music is totally subjective :)

I love you stole the sun ...that would be on my list to play someone . From the holy bible first tracks have to be Faster and This is yesterday. That album took ages for me to get into and I was a fan already.

He should've asked us how to proceed :p

Been thinking about a video I saw of Repeat, I think 1993 at Phoenix festival? Does anyone have this at all? It use to be on YouTube but I can’t find it. Thanks!

Sorry, my youtube searching skills have failed to find it. This is a fun 1992 live version though if it's any consolation

Thanks for trying!

It use to be on YouTube but has since gone. I remember James starting the song with “shut the f*** up you fat c***, now this is a little school lesson for you, repeat after me, f*** your queen and your country” . Great version.

So my brother-in-law sent over an autographed copy of Rewind The Film earlier today. Not got around to asking him its origins, so I put it to you guys, are the for real?

LA ex 15-03-2021 16:46

The James and Sean autographs look similar to other ones on line, the third one doesn't look like it says Nicky, Wire or anything similar!

I'll be interested about the story behind having them write "Disco dancing with the rapists and how the band responded to being asked to write that lyric for them!

LA ex 15-03-2021 16:49

Actually, although I still struggle to see how it says Nicky it seems comaprable to other signatures

Got the answer...

Hi Rob, my mate was an area manager for o2 so we used to go to a lot of o2 arena gigs,
met the band, said I had only recently just got into them and always liked wierd way out lyrics since a kid
especially some of the beatles stuff, they asked what was their stand out lyrics and I think I seriously misquoted them,
think someone said something in Welsh and laughed then they wrote that down.

UEF 17-03-2021 10:11

None of these signatures look real to me, you’d expect one of the three to be in sync with how they usually are

If I didn’t see it done with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it

This is why I asked...bro in law a bit full of shit at times

So Fcuk Renault & the Fcukin French car companies

I was at the gig but the DVD is edited but not the radio broadcast.

So far as I know, none of them speak Welsh, or if they do it's a recent thing.
