As I understand it, support acts at most gigs get a set fee. It might be bigger for a big stadium tour, but I imagine it's not particularly lucrative.
The main "prize" from this sort of thing is probably exposure and sales. Let's face it, by playing to a Bon Jovi crowd, you're playing to a fairly large audience who still actually buy music (physically or otherwise.)
