Chart analysis gubbins thingy from accredited chart boffins....

"The album that shot to the top on Saturday’s sales flashes was Manic Street Preachers’ 13th studio album in a glittering 26-year chart career, Resistance Is Futile. Looking to become Manic Street Preachers’ second No.1, 20 years after the first – This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours – it ended up becoming their fifth No.2 album instead, following 1996’s Everything Must Go, 2001’s Know Your Enemy, 2007’s Send Away The Tigers and their most recent studio album, Futurology, which debuted and peaked in runners-up position in July 2014, on first week sales of 19,938 copies. All of the Welsh trio’s studio albums and three compilations – a grand total of 16 albums – have made the Top 20 (actually, the Top 13). They have also had 24 Top 20 singles, though none since 2007. 4,571 of Resistance Is Futile’s 24,144 sales were on 12-inch, and it duly debuts atop the vinyl album chart, with marginally fewer sales than the rest of the Top 5 combined, while first single International Blue tops the vinyl singles chart (655 sales)."

FWIW Hugh Jackman's atrocity exhibition sold 30,080 (including 11,243 from sales-equivalent streams).
