Bands that have ripped the Manics off?

I found this one indie band call Carnage Candy, who have completely stole their look/songtitles etc. Take a look:

Hi

There's a band called Miss Black America that are heavily inspired by the Manics, I think one could argue whether they actually "ripped them off" or not though...I'm not that familiar with them so maybe someone else can comment further on that.

Haha, thanks for sharing that page on Carnage Candy - I particularly liked the title of their 1999 demo, "It Is Impossible To Breathe Smothered In Your Apathy" - its so bad its almost good, in a hilarious kind of way

Ha, I bought their album. Haven't heard it for years though...

Err... King Adora?

I'm kinda surprised that there aren't any bigger bands to have been heavily influenced by Manics. Radiohead, Oasis and Blur have got a handful each these days, and Manics weren't that far behind them in popularity when these new bands were growing up..

I know they were fans of the early stuff, but I can't think of one King Adora song that sounds anything like one Manics song. Musically it's far more trash punk/NY Dolls inspired than anything the Manics have ever done. Lyrically they're worlds apart.

I guess they ripped them off a bit with the look, but they might as well have been ripping off the bands that the Manics ripped off in that respect.

Manics were definately an influence, unlike with Kinesis/Miss black America where it was so blatant a rip off as to be ridiculous.

I'm surprised, I've never read any IC interviews although I was a big fan at the time, and they didn't seem like the sort of band who'd like the Manics... especially as they actually stuck to their promise of splitting up after 5 years or 3 albums, whichever came first (sadly the former).

'Big Isn't Beautiful'? Not the verses, but the chorus is a bit Manics/Richey like.

I think you're referring to a track from their second album titled Where Is Home?

To cut off the feet of every ballerina
But I can't"

Big Isn't Beautiful is a very poor man's 4st7lb. Yeah, suppose there's not much in common sound wise, but to look at them if nothing else, I'd be surprised if they weren't fans of Generation Terrorists at least.

I saw them live a few years ago, coerced into it by a mate who lured me with the "They're like the Manics" line. I don't remember much of the gig other than the lead singer sneering at the other bands on the bill for being actual musicians, and jumping around lots. Although I'm not sure how clearly I remember that, since we got there kinda early, leaving us not much to do other than get disastrously shitfaced. I think they were good, though.

I think it was the bassist, Gordon Moakes who stole it, he's a big Manics fan.

Kinesis. They were signed to Columbia, Martin Hall was their manager, Mitch Ikeda did their photographs, they provided a stencil for people to make tshirts of their lyrics and even went as far as having a song called Faceless Sense of Void.
