Generation Terrorists 2011/12 Tour, Interesting Possiblity?
With the recent Pixies tour for Doolittle and Iron's Maiden's Somewhere Back In Time tour I started thinking if it might be interesting for the Manics to do a Generation Terrorists tour for the 20th anniversary. An entire tour where they only played tracks from the Generation Terrorists era and earlier with some of the look recreated for it.
I was too young to see it the first time round and would absolutely love to see something like this happen. I'm partly biased as I really like the Generation Terrorists album itself but I was always think the look and live performances of this era was one of them most vivid of their career and would be a joy to revive for a one off tour. I was curious if I was alone in this or if anyone else liked the idea?

Do you not think that would be monumentally embarrassing? I mean, I'm a huge fan of James' voice and guitar skills, but I have no desire to see him with his shirt off in white jeans (calm down JDBAS). I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the six pack he had in the Slash & Burn video anymore...

One minute Nicky says he hates these "Album played in full gigs" and then the next they play JFPL in full?
I can't see the anniversary being ignored but I'd rather they just got on with the next album and see what happens next? |

In fact, they have been doing a GT tour without a break since they released it. There were gigs when they played Slash'nBurn, ME, You Love Us, Stay Beautiful and Little Baby Nothing in 2002 - I was there once and gigs they played Born To End instead of Slash'n'Burn plus Condemned To R'n'R intro in 2007 - I also was there once. Compare this to the recent US tour when they played 4 songs off JFPL!

No more anniversaries! GT doesn't deserve it, and I'd rather see them do something new.
Also, I highly doubt that we're going to get Sean to grow his hair again

Pretty sure Richey will be up for it even if the others are not.

I would love a tour with a heavy GT theme, but please no more albums in order! It's too predictable and boring.

Can't see it happening, but I'd be gagging for it. Not so sure about the tight white jeans and leopard print these days though..

I think it'd be cool but there's no way they'd do it.

I wouldn't mind them doing it, but as long as there's videos out there from the real era, I'm happy - it wouldn't be anywhere the same if they did a GT tour today anyway...
(I just don't think they could deliver Democracy Coma with the same poise as back then)

Surely this is what tribute bands are for. I would rather go and see a tribute band recreate the old look than have the real band distracted from their excellent efforts to make new music.
New albums though, I quite like them in full. If the running order works on record why not live too. And if you get a whole nother set afterwards well what's not to like? In fact I think the convention should become for all bands to play their whole new albums live. It might stop some of them padding their records out with so much s**t. |
