Big Japanese Bonus Track Thread 2024

oo-er, making a thread, not done this for a while…

Son of Stopped posed the question whether there are enough Japanese Edition bonus tracks for a compilation - and although it depends how strict you are about it, I would say a big ‘yes’, so I thought it might be a good time to make a new thread about it.

Many of you will recognise that some of these have been released as B-sides, singles (or as a quasi-official EP in the case of GSTM) in the UK at various times, and appeared on later anniversary editions, but I’m focusing on essentially studio-recorded tracks that were put on Japanese album releases and not the standard (or latterly ‘deluxe’ 2-disc) UK albums when first released. So the singles, EP, and (initially) Japanese exclusives that appeared on Japanese Editions of the albums.
I’m choosing to not include live tracks and remixes (hence the lack of entries for Japanese GATS and THB tracks or all the NT gig tracks). And I reckon no ‘Know Your B-Sides’, it’s an individual EP release in its own right, not ‘bonus tracks’ as such (probably because they couldn’t fit them on the Japanese KYE CD at the time).

Feel free to argue the case for/against anything, many of them are a bit vague as to what would qualify I reckon, and please point out any glaring omissions/mistakes I may have made, this stuff only gets more complicated as time goes on!

Anyway, (more than) enough waffle from me - maybe people could post their own (+/-12-track?) compilation LP selection from the following (Japanese LP in brackets):

A Vision Of Dead Desire (og GT)
Motown Junk (GT 1998 re-issue)
No-one Knows What It’s Like To Be Me (EMG)
Black Garden (EMG)
Socialist Serenade (TIMTTMY)
Black Holes For The Young (TIMTTMY)
Just A Kid (KYE)
The Masses Against The Classes (KYE)
A Secret Society (LT)
Picturesque (LT)
Firefight (LT)
The Soulmates (Lb)
Antarctic (Lb)
Love Letter to the Future (SATT)
Morning Comrades (SATT)
Send Away the Tigers (acoustic version)(SATT)
Alien Orders / Invisible Armies (JFPL)
Primitive Painters (JFPL)
Red Rubber (PFAYM)
Evidence Against Myself (PFAYM)
Rock ‘N’ Roll Genius (NT)
Death of a Digital Ghost (RTF)
Anti Social Manifesto (Fu)
Kodawari (Fu)
Holding Patterns (RIF)
Mirror Gaze (RIF)
My Drowning World (TUVL)
These Dark Roads (TUVL)

I’m going to speculate that a Japanese release of Critical Thinking will probably get the two tracks on the 7 inch release (official store blurb of “the only way to listen on vinyl” suggestive of a Japanese CD release or online digital release to me). I guess we’ll find out soon.

Let The Light Return (CT)?
Johatsu (CT)?

My 12-track album from those:

1. Kodawari
2. Firefight
3. Black Holes For The Young
4. No-one Knows What It’s Like To Be Me
5. Mirror Gaze
6. The Masses Against The Classes
7. Alien Orders / Invisible Armies
8. These Dark Roads
9. Holding Patterns
10. Black Garden
11. Love Letter To The Future
12. Socialist Serenade

Makes for a pretty nice listen I think, I recommend it!

Bonus tracks!
13. The Soulmates
14. My Drowning World

Edit: Here’s a YouTube Playlist of my compilation.
