Really enjoyed that, a good little set list too Will watch again later on with a few beers. I hope we get a Manics film one day, that would be awesome.

Definitely Cardiff Afterlife. I tried some lyrics in Google translate that were interesting in Welsh. I would like to hear them play Sepia and I always like how James puts lyrics in the music anyway.

So there was a Rough Trade Nicky Wire interview this evening. Anyone go? Anything said that stuck with you?

I can't, sorry. But from YouTube, Decline & Fall made the third most listened to song however. And the band themselves were third behind MGMT and Jimi Hendrix.
I'll be streaming the hell out of Critical Thinking when it goes up of course. That's my new target for 2024. |

After the recent storm a lot of areas in South Wales are without power still. I'm reading of pub owners losing thousands of bookings.
I wonder if the band's rehearsals have been affected? Hope anyone in South Wales here is ok. |

Man, I remember when it was ‘just a few years ago’, scrambling to download bad bootleg recordings and photos off rudimentary fan sites. Seems like a completely different era now.

The internet of twenty odd years ago is almost incomparable to what it is today, in retrospect it was very much the wild west back then before everything became commercial and the big social media sites took over. Do fan sites exist and thrive anymore? Forums are all but dead compared to what they used to be. And I'm not sure any of that 'progress' has been for the better.

The digital age has definitely made some things more convenient but I see your latter point for sure, some corners of the internet are a cesspit. |

Yeah, the way social media has replaced fansites (and, in most cases, content-filled official sites) is depressing. For most who weren't online much - either too young or old - at the time when fansites were a big thing, I don't think they even cross their minds, much in the way a lot of people will go to a chain store without even considering looking for an independent alternative.
I actually wound down a fansite I was running for my favourite band because it was getting zero views and I couldn't afford any web hosting at the time - it was a shame, because I had as comprehensive an archive of information as was really possible at the time. At the moment I'm using that knowledge as the basis of a YouTube series that goes through the history of the band, and the videos are doing pretty well, views regularly getting into the thousands; it seems like the only way of really getting that information out there in a way that people will want to consume at this point in time. |
