I agree with the similarities You mentioned and there's (at least) one more - James singing Old Red Eyes is Back with Beautiful South. First few seconds I thought it was Freddie (I had many songs in the list and shuffle turned on)

Then it's about time the Manics did a cover of Killer Queen.

I was being driven home last night and I was thinking... aside from the title track I think the closest thing Queen have got to the Manics is the Innuendo album? I didn't tell the driver as he wouldn't have given a toss and I admit I had to use SATT to back my claim up but...
"I'm going Slightly Mad" would be one of Nicky's ILTFA lyrics and my brain played me an "I'm Going Slightly Mad with the tune from To Repel Ghosts" mix. "Headlong". I would be more than satisfied and happy (even though you lot probably wouldn't!) if their comeback single was as good as this! "I Can't Live With You" would have given IJAP more of a pop rock sheen which wouldn't have done it any harm? Skip the next track and "Ride The Wind Wind" I was thinking we should be greatful the band haven't tried a rockabilly song but then there's IB? I can't see the Manic Street Preachers being as gospel as "All God's People" and no matter how much he loves his slinky malinky dog I can't see a tribute song to it like "Deliah"? "These Were The Days Of Our Lives" irons out the more moody atmosphere the Manics would normally have but isn't this Queen's "Everlasting"? We can see the differences in the two bands by the lyrical content as well as the points were they almost meet? "The Hitman" and this is the intersection where Queen and the Manics meet! This is the wormhole that brings the two universes together and although Nicky calls IYTTYCwBN a "Actually a pro-war song..." they'd never include: "Come back mother!/Nuke that sucka!" "Bijou", who wouldn't want to hear a solo that was a slightly ambient cross between TLORN and Patrick Bateman? "The Show Must Go On" it wouldn't have the theatrical undercurrent compared to the uplifting NSAF or WL but it would be an ending like Cardiff Afterlife. Of course if you hate Queen then this sounds like the worst Manics album in the world that they could ever do ever...!, but given the "current blueprint (?)" is Kraftwerk and side 2 of Abbey Road maybe they'll bottle it and set the controls from the heart of the Queen? |

James would love to have the freedom of artistic expression to do something like Innuendo, I reckon
Hammer to Fall is pretty similar to some MSP

I don't agree with last two posts. I don't think James would like to do something like Innuendo. Manics made many better albums. And Hammer To Fall? "Here we stand here we fall history don't care at all"? come on
And to the SoS's post - I don't enjoy any analogies You mentioned. Bijou??? MSP??? no.

I love this song and I can't find out of another band except Manics to do a great cover of this song or any Queen song.
