The Manics are a real working band. They play the festival circuit virtually every summer after they've done their main tour when most groups would be taking a break.

But, on the other hand, why? I'd rather they had a proper rest and spent time making a great album.

Bands make money by touring, not by album sales. Tours and merchandise.

Might have considered Stafford (probably sold out now anyway!) but on holiday so that is that!

I think most group do the festivals too as well don't they? well unless they don't get the offers.

Especially since the eastern european festival scene has expanded though I can totally see why bands do it - you get to travel to these amazing places, play to fans you wouldn't even know existed otherwise, and like everyones said you just get paid to play so you get the cash without all the stress of organising your own tour. Its like being paid to have an adventure.

I actually really enjoyed the recent 6 date tour but for the couple of years before I'd definitely been enjoying the festivals more than the tours. In 2008 for instance in just over a week we went from a beach on the baltic, to a club in Moscow to the midnight sun just outside the arctic circle. I'd take that over a day at V every time!

Actually, you're certainly right...many groups fit in festival dates during or after a tour but the Manics seem to go out of their way to do it every time. The Postcards tour finished in January [and that was the rearranged dates] so it's a long gap before playing several mainly obscure festivals. There was a mini tour recently, of course, but they wouldn't have done that unless the festival dates were coming up.

Yes. James mentioned this during the I Tunes gig last night and speaking to Wayne afterwards, he said he'd only had 2 hours sleep, because they'd been to Turkey the previous day.
