James was the only singer I could make out over the wittering of the stupid presenters when they weren't actually showing an act, just waffling.

I feel sorry for the bands at Live 8. They put in all that time and effort and mainly everyone at home watching were just thinking "Yeah, where's Pink Floyd? When are they on?"
So perhaps it's just as well the Manics weren't on the bill.

other than the mentioned Tsunami gig, i dare say they would happily donate time and whatever they could to a cause they genuinely believed in. you just don't see them doing something like Live 8 just because Bob Geldof said so, or the record company said "it will boost sales". i seem to recall reading that the ad breaks on the day of the event were loaded with adverts for the back catalogue of most involved in it?

never saw Live 8 - despite a gig being staged here in Africa for it, apparently, it got zero TV coverage down this end of the continent.

I heard that they haven't been asked to play a gig but I'm not sure.
