The Manics always sound like the Manics to me, even when they are doing something different. They have had a few extremes in sound over the years after all!

I've been told that the letter I wrote about the cover has been published in this week's issue! I can't get hold of a copy of it yet so I'm not sure how they responded to it.

Lifeblood got a 6 from NME when released - it was quite a small review, as well.

They were careful when they reviewed SATT cos of the bashing they got for the Lifeblood review from some fans!

I never realised how much Roses In The Hospital sounded like Sound and Vision until James pointed it out.

I recall the reviewer actually came on to either this or the official manics forum to defend himself. I told him I didn't care what he thought about the album, the review was just badly written.

I can agree with some of the reviewer's choices, but I have a few major issues with the ranking...
JFPL should be in the top 3. Generation Terrorists had some great tracks, but a good many of their other albums outshone it, so it really doesn't deserve to be third place. I actually really like Know Your Enemy, despite the excess. It at least deserves to go above TIMTTMY (which in my opinion should be last on the list). And yeah, Lifeblood deserves more praise than it gets. I don't think it's fantastic, but it's far from a disaster. |
