What I love most about this song is the way James sings/pronounces the lyrics of the chorus. Is there any other person on this planet who can get away with singing words like "resources" and "endorsements", and make them sound so beautiful, too? Nope, didn't think so. :-D

I love the promise of a different and better tune the solo gives you, even the way it works with the orchestra. And then it falls back to what isn't that bad to begin with.

Yep, another vote here for Black Square as favourite song from the album. Been playing "Futurology" on and off all week and if I've only got time to listen to one track in the car, it will be this one.

Can't explain it as I'm no drummer but Sean's drumming seems top notch on this one. The chorus drumming seems to miss a beat (obviously deliberately) but it must be harder to drum like that where you purposely miss a beat than to carry on as normal.

I think this might be my favorite track from the album. I love everything about it, from the weird noises in the intro, the way james sings the chorus, the weird bit in the middle... Its all just stunningly beautiful.

Nice song, but honestly it would have been a whole lotta better if sang as a duet with Nicky.

When I played "Black Square" to a friend and told him what it was about, he was a bit taken aback, because he loved it but hadn't listened to the lyrics. His reaction then was something like, wtf? And I can see why. Only James can get away with singing a song about a... well... black square. ;-) It reminded me of Nicky's comment at Glasto ("a number one record with deep-rooted politics - it can be done!"), which also made me think that yes, it can be done, but only by the Manics. They're the only ones around I can think of who write songs like "Tolerate..." that are catchy enough to appeal to people who aren't interested in politics at all.

This is a good song, though I was expecting better from some of the opinion on here, and the title made me expect a heavier sound than it is.

The chorus is great and got me straight away, with the verses being a bit disappointing at first but they're growing for me.

I do wish that what sounds like a string instrument that accompanies the end of quickening guitar bit would last a bit longer as it becomes prominent.

Best song on the album. Drumming is flawless and mesmerizing; reminds me of Sean's TIMT era.

Some of the best drumming ever in a pop song.

A pressing question though - has someone deciphered the extra lyrics from the demo? I think I can make out the second line, but not the first.

The song would, Iīm afraid, gain from having that extra chorus after the second and third ones. Itīs really, really driving and Iīm a bit sad they didnīt include it, since it would make an already fantastic album track an all time classic.
