Nice to see this thread being updated again, might have to take some pictures on me next lazy day off. Great Western LP is the most annoying gap in my collection... Not added a great deal this year, not got any EMG 20s besides the vinyl yet... Got a few promo cassettes and some Asian albums added, that's about it.

I'll probably end up getting the Everything Must Go 20 box in a couple of months... Still need to get the Holy Bible non-mispressed one...

Bit pissed off about this exclusive/non-exclusive blue vinyl..

Ah, wanted an excuse to bump this thread again... Haven't been adding a great deal to the collection recently but just started to do a new spreadsheet of it all. Which is where problems come in. Had one saved in me signature but stupidly deleted the gmail account it was set up in..

Soo... I'll go chronological order, but I'm in a dilemma whether to lump reissues in with the originals. Got three separate issues of Motorcycle Emptiness, The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go to think about. Actually, four for Everything Must Go if we're counting the Music on Vinyl thing from 2011-2012ish that wasn't really tied into anything besides the other vinyl repressings.. Generally, I'll lump the same title together. Which also feels a bit wrong when you're getting Holy Bible after Lifeblood and Tolerate after Little Baby Nothing.

Format wise I tend to go;

Test pressing/white label/cdr
Promo cd
Promo vinyl
Promo cassette
CD/LP
12"
10"
7"
Cassette
Minidisc
DVD
VHS
VCD
Box set

I can't decide what to do import wise. Obviously start with UK (unless you've got a US promo but not a UK one like I have with Stay Beautiful and Slash N' Burn...), but then I'll tend to go East, through Europe first and Asia and Australia, then back around to America and Canada. But what if you've got something that just says Sony Music Asia on it.. Then what about solo stuff?

Kin hell, this is hard shit. Any other sods on here have reliable methods or unreasonable concerns about how to go about this?

If it was me I'd list them in release date order with the album as a fullstop.* I'd keep all the singles together tho so any released after the album would still be listed with the singles.

Promos depends how many there are .. I don't have many so I'd just lump them in with their parent album

Any non album singles I'd list separately, solo stuff too. Makes sense to me anyway

I keep meaning to take a photo of all my GT stuff just so my friends can laugh at how many copies I have of one album

* or have the albums as headings, thinking of them as eras

I just have everything listed in a very basic text file, grouped in sections; Albums, singles, videos, bootlegs, Interview disc, Compilations feat the band, Other bands they featured on, solo works, books, clothing, books, ticket stubs, postcards/posters.

Different editions noted in brackets, for example:

Generation Terrorists (5 Track Promo CD)
Generation Terrorists (CD Original w/ extended LBN)
Generation Terrorists (CD US)
Generation Terrorists (US Longbox)
Generation Terrorists (CD US - Chinese Bootleg)
Generation Terrorists (CD 1996)
Generation Terrorists (Japanese CD 2nd edition)
Generation Terrorists (US 12”)
Generation Terrorists (cassette Extended LBN w/ sticker)
Generation Terrorists (cassette)
Generation Terrorists (cassette Chrome Tape)
Generation Terrorists (US cassette)
Generation Terrorists (Thai Cassette w/ EMG Tape)
Generation Terrorists Volume 1 (Polish cassette)
Generation Terrorists Volume 2 (Polish cassette)
Generation Terrorists (CD London Rock! Edition)
Generation Terrorists (20th Anniversary 1 CD)
Generation Terrorists (20th Anniversary 3 CD Promo)
Generation Terrorists (20th Anniversary 3 disc boxset)
Generation Terrorists (20th Anniversary 4 disc boxset)
Generation Terrorists / Gold Against the Soul (Slipcase)
Generation Terrorists / Gold Against the Soul (Jewel Cases)

It's a very primitive but it works for me. I know exactly what everything listed is without anymore detail.

It's all grouped together by era rather than release date. Albums include promos and mini albums such as Stars and Stripes, Remixed US promo etc... Singles includes e.ps. and shorter promos such as God Save the Manics, Black Garden/No One Knows French promo.

I've attempted in the past to create a more in-depth spreadsheet and even at one point looked into software for creating a searchable database.

Ooh that sounds like cardinal sinning to my obsessive listing. When I say chronological, I'm talking purely chronological as far as the original releases go, so You Love Us comes immediately before Generation Terrorists and Slash N' Burn immediately after. But then the 20th Anniversary Generation Terrorists comes immediately before Slash N' Burn too.. But that comes last in my Generation Terrorists... Even though it should arguably come after National Treasures... Ah, fuck...

I like that, I'm probably going a bit overkill. Columns I've got are band, title, format, country, label, year, serial number then a miscellaneous one at the end for added detail (promo, signed, slipcase, numbered, coloured vinyl etc).

You've got the US long box?

EDIT:

Fuck it, I'm getting rid of label and serial number.

Yeah. I was lucky to get it earlier this year. Bought it as soon as I saw it. It's flattened, probably fits about two copies of the album inside.

Also my US LP is still sealed! Though it has the usual hole cut into it.

Owt special inside? Not really been in a position to be looking for silly rarities..

I've got the LP but mine's missing the inner so I'll probably have to replace it at some point...
