So, I really like:

“Sequels To Forgotten Wars”
“In Eternity”
“International Blue”
“Broken Algorithms”

The rest I’m really not sure about...except for “The Left Behind”, which is utter dogshit.

I’ve figured it out! The guitar solo on “In Eternity” reminds me of the music that plays when you go into the Lost Woods in A Link To The Past.

Hah, I can see that a little, yes.

Can you imagine a manics album of just zelda/classic video game tune covers...? drool... maybe that’s just me. Maybe if they get to like 50 albums and they’re all 85 and bored...

Hold Me Like a Heaven has got a serious Bowie vibe to it.

Disagree. It's beautiful, very reminiscent of the best of Luna.

Horses for courses mate, glad you find enjoyment from it.

After several listens, I think I’m going with the following:

GREAT
Sequels Of Forgotten Wars
In Eternity
Broken Algorithms
International Blue

GOOD
Vivian
People Give In
Hold Me Like A Heaven
Distant Colours

MEDIOCRE
A Song For The Sadness
Dylan & Caitlin
Liverpool Revisited

TERRIBLE
The Left Behind

Of course, there are still 4 more new songs that will be on the special edition of the album. And, as always happens with the Manics, at least two of them will be better than any of the bad songs on the album!

Initial thoughts

People Give In - 9/10
International Blue - 8/10
Distant Colours - 9/10
Vivian - 9/10
Dylan and Caitlin - 7/10
Liverpool Revisited - 7.5/10
Sequels of Forgotten Wars - 9/10
Hold Me Like a Heaven - 8/10
In Eternity - 8/10
Broken Algorithms - 7/10
A Song For The Sadness - 9/10
The Left Behind - 5.5/10

Overall, very solid with a few poorer tracks but thankfully just the one real clunker which they could have done without.

My thoughts / ranking would be something like this:

Totally love (10s):
Hold Me Like a Heaven
In Eternity
Sequels of Forgotten Wars

Almost totally love (9s):
Distant Colours
Dylan & Caitlin
International Blue
A Song for the Sadness

Like very much (8-8.5s):
Vivian
Broken Algorithms
Liverpool Revisited
People Give In

Still quite like, just not as much, mainly because it’s Nicky singing (sorry Nicky):
The Left Behind (probably a 7ish).

I want to stick up for TLB a bit even though it’s probably my least favourite on the album. The best analogy I can come up with is that I think ‘it really ties the album together’ - a bit like The Dude’s rug, even if it did get peed on. I love the music and the words are cool, and I actually think Nicky’s vocals are much better than they once were. I just like all the other tracks better.

Liverpool Revisited is just belting isn’t it. Only problem is that it’s about two minutes shorter than it should’ve been. Corker.
