What does everyome make of the lyrics now, especially since so long has now passed aince the events it deals with. Juat thought it might be fun to discuss!

My best friends (one Welsh, neither Manics fans) had a baby earlier in the year. Named him Elian. Suffice to say they were unimpressed to learn of this song's existence.

As for the song, it's shit Nicky hadn't rehearsed it. It's lucky it wasn't a single (more commercial than Ocean Spray for me) as that would have made post-Cuba 2001 America that bit trickier to sell to the not us! I prefer the studio version to the acoustic version. But it's James with an acoustic so it's still worth listening and watching. |

It's very much of its time. Reminds me of 2001 so much. Great melody and chorus. And for the guitar nerds, going between the two major 7th chords in the verse is gorgeous.

I’ve always liked this song.
P.S. I can’t believe Elián González in now 27 years old

The music is pretty good but the lyrics were cringeworthy even at the time. And they’ve not gotten any better with time.
