Hiding in plain sight

This single deserves a thread on its own.

Brilliant song imho. One of the best things they did in a decade.
I hope Nicky doesn't screw it up on Jools. And that the female singer joins them on stage.

I know, right?!
It's like Nicky looked at the response Complicated Illusions got and thought "This time I'm singing the songs!".
I'm happy I know the titles of five of the new album and heard two.
I even think we'll get another single with James back singing before the year's gone!
But back to today. Hiding In Plain Sight. Lyrically higher than Decline&Fall, but no big clever words. Simplistic and before you've got a handle on it. The pulsing and rushing up of the music takes you.
For those who say it's autotuned, which part? Nicky's really come along great as a singer. But obviously it's still James associated.
There's a TBC in the Radio2's B-List playlist. No idea when it gets revealed but dare dream it's Hiding In Plain Sight? https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/art...music-playlist
Even if the live TV performance doesn't happen to be great, we still have the recorded song Hiding In Plain Sight. We'll even have the demo of it on the second disc!
I love Hiding In Plain Sight and it's still full on steam ahead not even fixing roof while shines on this island.
Which might have found it's new National Anthem?
Thanks for the thread! Completely with you on this!

Great recording, slightly nervous performance on Jools though and D&F is a much better live tune and I found myself going back to the studio version of that and enjoying it more. A lot of pressure on Nicky I think. The vocal isn't autotuned, it's probably a composite of a lot of different takes and it's double tracked.

Listened to it while walking the dog, it hit all the right notes. For once i don't mind Nicky on vocals either. Good song.

Bit on the boyband poppy-side for me. You can tell its James from the guitar rift about 90 secs in but doesn't move me.

For a new song from anyone in the world, I'd say it's great. From the Manics, it's good. I got absolutely obsessed with Diapause from TUVL though, and it's going to be hard to top that.

That was one of the few I loved from TUVL. One of the rare moments from the past decade that gives me some faith that they can still write a song that grabs me.

I really liked most of TUVL (Diapause and nearly all of the second half being superb) but I think the two singles they released were probably the two worst singles they've ever released.

The two singles released from this album are way better than Orwellian and The Secret He Had Missed but they're not better than International Blue and Distant Colours - in my opinion at least.

The new album is very promising, and will make me very happy as long as they don't overload it with piano based songs.

With the video, the whole thing is really quite touching... Wire's process of 'revealing himself in layers' comes, via Intimism, to what might be its conclusion. The shades come off, entirely literally, and we see a man in his mid-50s, surrounded by totems of the past, just trying to keep it together for one more dance. A very personal, lovely thing. And you can whistle it.

Also: books! Ā la the Found That Soul video. Overall, roughly three hundred times better than Decline & Fall.
