Album's really solid. And "The Left Behind" is nice.

Just started listening to a few of the tracks. General thoughts overshadowed by the "OMG it's that one from the trailer" as is the case with people give in. I'll give it a full listen tonight.

One listen in.

Love the muted war of the worlds style guitar present throughout. For the naysayers, this album shits all over PFAYM. There are proper, well thoughtout songs here.

Certified masterpieces are: Vivian, Song for the sadness, In eternity.

Hopefully growers: Hold me like a heaven, The left behind.

My initial assessment hasn’t changed much...

Sequels Of Forgotten Wars
In Eternity
A Soundtrack To Complete Withdrawal
Broken Algorithms
Hold Me Like A Heaven

Those are the tracks that I really like and will be taking away from this record. The remainder of the songs I’ve already lost interest in or forgotten.

I am on my first listen. But I never want to make an assessment until a solid 2 months or so of listening. I find what initially grabs me can bore me quickly and what initially bores me can bore into my bones and brain to become essential..

So, to make a rambling story short, I'll be back with my assessment sometime during the summer :-P

Listened to it on the way to footie tonight. My thoughts, for what they're worth....

People Give In - I like it. A bit quirky, a bit different and catchy and a departure from the norm.

International Blue - still blows me away every time I hear it. I guess I've heard this more than any other on the album which gives it an unfair advantage over the non-released singles but it's such a strong track.

Distant Colours - yep, like this one. Another quirky song but the way the chorus comes crashing in hits the spot.

Vivian - meh.

Dylan & Caitlin - to me, this is much better than the acoustic version I heard a while ago. As others have said, many others in fact, sounds like Jacqui Abbott singing on there - not that that's a bad thing.

Liverpool Revisited - my favourite song on the album. Love it, love it, love it, love it. If it was 90 seconds longer, by adding in two more verses and two more choruses say, would be in my all time top ten Manics songs. Feel a bit cheated that it's not longer but hey ho, I'd rather have a song for 2 mins 31 seconds that I like than a 4 minute song that I didn't.

Sequels of Forgotten Wars - okay.

Hold Me Like A Heaven - will be a grower.

In Eternity - okay.

Broken Algorithms - okay.

Song for the Sadness - this will be another grower.

The Left Behind - very strange song but I like it a lot. Nicky's voice is well short of the quality of JDB of course but this merits its spot on the album, albeit song 12 of 12.

Will give it another shot over the weekend to see if I can generate more interest in the songs from 7-11.

First listen thoughts...

Thematically, it seems like a cross between Rewind The Film and Futurology. Music wise, it sounds like the band emulating or paying tribute to the music they grew up with in the 70s and 80s.

I have. About eight times. I feared it would by another PFAYM but it has grown on me incredibly already.

Favourite songs currently Dylan & Caitlan (prefer this to the acoustic version), Liverpool Revisted and Hold Me Like a Heaven.

This album is incredible! Not a single average track on it... It's been a long time since I had a record as strong as this one in my CD player. Besides the overall quality of the record, there are aswell some standout tracks to be found on it: "Hold Me Like A Heaven", "In Eternity", Broken Algorithms" and "People Give In" really blow me away both musically and lyricwise.

Time will tell, but I think this album is going to be seen as a classic in a few years.

Music on this album reminds me of
The Great Western.
Surprise, it was steering towards PFAYM
After first listen.
