Actually tried listening to this again yesterday, think I like it less than ever. I just find almost all of the melodies really, really annoying for some reason.

Funny I am the opposite. Been listening all week and remembering things I liked about it. I think it's a great achievement with maybe only two duffers tracks (Waves of whatever and the afterending).

Don't Let The Night Divide Us and... Well, Orwellian were the only two songs I usually skip.
Into The Waves Or Love is second best or best when I listen. I can see how some would think but I don't want the Manics to sound like that act! Least of all that particular artist. But, the intro is pure early 2000's Pop of DJ Pied Piper. And then of course there's that great shift into a different piece of music. It's either changing the channels on a satellite music network. Or instrumental interpretation of womankind assessing the claims made in the lyrics leading up to it. If it got removed you wouldn't have the great bit where James joins in the wordless. Someone else can defend Afterending (personally think they should play it after No Surface All Feeling). Anyway, is anybody freaky enough to listen to Decline&Fall after TUVL? It's certainly more confident. |
