One thing I will say about the iTunes/iPod way of doing things... it actually keeps albums more interesting as you can shuffle them with other artists. I played most of the MSP albums to death before mp3 players and got quite bored of them after a while...

Playing it really loud now and I'm noticing details that I've never heard before (as they're so quiet), like 'news' music playing in background of the IfWhiteAmerica sample.

yes they do. Sister Ray have opened a vinyl only shop in Shoreditch. Can't only be me with a record player.

Played the 'US mix' earlier in full on loud. Top album but to be honest there's not THAT much different in the songs at all, think the song that is most different I notice is IfwhiteAmerica....
If they have something lined up they should just announce it now or just say nothing is happening.

I think the US mix is cleaner in some parts (noticable on the drums on "Ifwhiteamaeica..."), beefed-up in others, and generally given a little polish. Whether that makes some songs better or worse is personal opinion (I love the US version of "Yes"), but when listening to the full album, it's the original every time for me.

What's it like? I haven't been. I found their Berwick Street prices often absurd (as in too high).

I haven't had a chance to go yet. They tweeted a picture of the holy bible picture disc for £99 which is double what i paid for it on ebay. If you're after new vinyl prices should be ok

Cheers. I suspect it might be a terrible rip off, but I will take a trip.

Richey's tortured artist status is wrong...

From your comment I expected something quite dreadful tbh!
An interesting and well-written essay, even though I wouldn't agree with all of it. But good to see someone looking at Richey/The Manics in the context of where they come from without resorting to cliches or scandalising. And that "tortured artist"-tag is a bit stale, isn't it?

I've never heard him actually referred to as a 'tortured artist' in the same terms as others who have worn the tag though (van Gogh etc.) It seems more the writer was more interested in tackling an issue that was never really fully formed. Richey had a lot of issues and there are a lot of opinions on them and his behaviour, and not all of them lead down to the simple conclusion of 'tortured artist'.

I like the photographs though!
