Also, don’t read the comments or you’ll want to smash something expensive.

I automatically read the comments after your advice...
The millennial guardianista brigade truly miss the point of Manics, which is very re-assuring. God forbid a band should still be permitted an opionion about anything at all. I hope there were similarly vitriolic comments when Thom York revealed his reticence re: Corbyn and the reformation of Labour. |

There's a mix in the comments, but a lot of reactionary (!) comments automatically shooting friendly fire toward the band, which I think is misjudged. Probably a sub editor to blame.

The Quietus compares the new album to Know Your Enemy, and heaps praise on the final two tracks: http://thequietus.com/articles/24380...-futile-review

I read 4 or 5 pages of the Guardian comments and they're not that bad ? Most are having a go at the clickbait article title.

As a general rule, Guardian comment sections on music are almost entirely negative towards the subject - it does not matter who the subject is, it's just how it is in the UK section at least.

Good to see they're pissing people off enough to make them comment.

I was disappointed. Was looking forward to the vitriol

The vitriol is there! It's still there for those with a burning desire to log-in and post less than a sentence worth that they must let everyone else know how shit the band are.
But good to see they had plenty of defenders.
