I bought one direct from Sony too (also supposed to be getting the t-shirt package) .. I keep clicking the link on my order confirmation ... to see my UPS tracking ... but my tracking number is all 00000 ... I emailed customer service today to see if they could shed some light on when I could look forward to delving into the set and have yet to hear back .... I just read a fellow FDer got theirs in Mexico so I'm hoping its on its way...

...anyone else's showing ambiguous tracking?

EDIT: Scratch that ... just got home and its on my door step ))))

or you could just write and ask for it? Sounds like there's been a mistake, not a deliberate attempt to fuck people over....

I'm not happy with Sony at the moment to say the least.

The No Manifesto u-turn, lack of promotion for the single, the ridiculous formats that the album is coming out in etc.

Everyone whinges about 'lack of promotion' when the Manics don't do great in the charts.

Yeah, it might just be that people who aren't already Manics fans just don't care for the song.

The promotion has actually been poor this time.

The band have gone for a more mainstream style, especially with the single release and the record label couldn't even get Radio 1 to play it.

The only publicity that I've seen for the record has been on this website and Jools Holland.

The things are obviously connected though. I mean, clearly promotion isn't the only thing that gets you a good chart position, but you aren't going to get one without it.

You're well within your rights to return it and get a refund anyway though, bad luck.
I did order the box set with the shirt before it was announced on the website that those sets had sold out. It said "1 shirt" ony my order-confirmation, and it even says "1 shirt" on the order slip that I got sent today.
Anyway, I don't feel ripped off and i have no plans of returning the box or of suing Sony music. The shirt would have been free so I didn't have to pay for something I didn't get.

---
Did anyone order the box after the ones with the shirts were sold out? Do you have "1 shirt" printed on your receipt? If you order it now, it is clearly stated that there is no shirt included.

I'm not too annoyed, just a bit disappointed and I'm curious why it happened.

Radio 2 and 6 Music have been hammering INWJTEOL, PFAYM is album of the week on Radio 2 and Album of the day on 6 Music, and the Manics themselves have been on both stations a few times. Let's face it, no one who listens to Radio 1 was going to buy INWJTEOL anyway, so altogether I'd say the Manics have had plenty of exposure on BBC radio. The single just ain't that good.

I don't blame lack of promotion, but I think some of the promotion has been badly handled. The way these special edition boxset orders via the Sony website have been dealt with has been pretty appalling. They cancelled my order without even telling me and I know the same thing happened to other people on here and now there seems to be problems with sending out t-shirts. They kept changing what the actual contents and price were going to be and how limited it was and whether everyone would get a t-shirt or just the first 500 orders. Things like this piss the existing fan base off, let alone catching the eye of new fans.

Maybe it's just a packing error?

That's the truth. Whoever makes the decisions needs to think carefully about the rest of the singles. I'm pretty certain it'll be Some Kind of Nothingness and The Descent. To be honest I'm *EDITnotEDIT* totally sure what they should release, I think all the songs work better in context.

I appreciate that, but maybe there was a reason Sony didn't spend fuckloads of cash promoting this single?

I'm assuming they actually paid a fair bit for Anna Friel and Michael Sheen.

What kind of promotion do you want? Aside from Radio 1, which wasn't going to happen. Tell me what level of promotion would turn this song into a #1 hit as opposed to a #28 flop.
