I've always found that as long as they have time to stop and chat, they will. James has always been the one who is most forthcoming and will actually try to talk to everyone. Nicky can be very hit and miss and I've yet to meet Sean. My take on it is that they'll make time to come out and speak to you if they can, providing you don't hound them or harrass them. Wait for your turn, speak to them normally (don't fawn over them, I think that would scare them ) and hopefully it'll be a great ending to a brilliant night.

But do remember that they can't always do a meet and greet, so accept that it might not happen. Good luck!

The most epic after-gig bothering was James' Tuck Shop at Wolves last year

They're really good with fans, like everyone else has said. After Wolves last year James hung around for a wee bit, but Nicky and Sean got on the bus, but Nicky did have a bad back. You should stay behind!

It all sounds good. Thanks everyone for your stories.

Is it busy at the exit afterwards or just a small group of people waiting?

It varies, but there's usually a good 20-30 people at least.

So I wish you good luck meeting them after a gig!
I agree with you about the autograph business but meeting someone in person whose music and art has stayed with you for so long is an unmissable opportunity. Nobody is expecting any conversation or even for them to necessarily care - just a simply handshake and saying to them "thanks very much" is a priceless experience. Life is about experiences. Live it.

Exactly. I just want to give any of them a nice firm handshake and say thanks. Having an album signed would be nice, but I'm going to shove it out into their faces.

I even quoted them in an A level exam. Numerous times.

Can I just suggest you don't do any of the following:
  • Say "Thanks so much for making music" or go on about how they changed your life like a stalker nutjob
  • Say they inspired you to play guitar
  • Then when asked if you're any good go on to say "Let's just say I'm Richey" (this definitely doesn't go down too well)
  • Be dismissive of the support band
  • Get left in a corner with Sean
  • Be very very drunk
Just the benefit of my limited experiences.

Stu's pretty much spot on. There will be lots of people at the London dates, and the chances are, as there'll be record company people there, they might not come out after the show; or if they do, not for long. Some of the small places like Lincoln or Southend would be a better bet.

They usually do come out, and are happy to meet people. Sometimes they don't want to or can't, so don't try and hound them in that situation. It's all common sense/courtesy really. No great mystery.

Nah, Sean's the best when you get him one-on-one. We had a really good chat with him in New York. I agree with all the others. Also, don't call James "Jim".

There's not much to elaborate, I've "spoken" to him 4 times now and I've never heard anything he's said. Because most of what he's said has been "um. hi.", and to be fair to the man I've hardly done much better.

When he's not much of an interviewee elsewhere it's hard for me to know how to approach a conversation with him I guess.

I would actually recommend the last one, not the first time you meet them but just as a random curveball once every couple of years.

Best time ever is still the time we bet Sam a fiver she wouldn't get down on her knees hug Wires leg and tell him he was her hero.

Perhaps controversially for this thread I still like bothering Wire best as he has the best sense of humour, but then you'd have to have a good sense of humour with hair like that.
