3 Ways to see Despair reminds me of I Want You (She's So Heavy), I wish it had a similar kind of extended coda though with that electric guitar part building and expanding. Oh and the removal of that horrible clunky Lennon line.

In other places I've thought, 'I've heard this melody before' but not been able to put my finger on it. I heard Robbie Williams on the album too but not on Anthem For A Lost Cause.

Anthem sounds like it would fit on postcards.

I hear a bit of Secret Society in this too.

Yep, agreed there. Also a bit of Red Rubber.

The synths of 30 Year War remind me a bit of the synths at the start of A Clockwork Orange.

I've mentioned some of these in another thread, but oh well:

This Sullen Welsh Heart - the melody for the 'So line up the firing squads, kiss goodbye to what you want' part reminds me of the 'Find me and follow me, through corridors, refectories' part of Dark of the Matinee by Franz Ferdinand.

The intro of Running Out of Fantasy reminds me of the intro to I Understand It by Idlewild.

Anthem For a Lost Cause reminds me of The Wrong Beginning crossed with The Second Great Depression in certain parts (can't remember exactly where in the song off the top of my head, but I definitely hear them in there somewhere).

The guitars on 3 Ways To See Despair remind me of Nobody Loved You.

Just listened to the track-b-track Xfm show… James mentioned 30YW features a reference to 'Keep the Red Flag Flying' after the 2nd chorus. Which is cool.

He also didn't sound very impressed when John Kennedy (DJ) mentioned 3WTSD's solo sounded a bit 'Dave Gilmour'(Pink Floyd) to him… but it really does, it's the second half of the solo especially with that funny 'woouuuw-wooouuuwoo--wwwooooo' noise that almost sounds like something off Dark Side Of The Moon to me… nothing to be ashamed of in my opinion anyway.

Show Me Wonder throws in a brass lick from 'Suspicious Minds' (at 2.43)

First few notes of '30-year War' sound a bit like the opening of Mercury Rev's 'Hudson Line', though that is probably pushing it.

30 Year War:
Brass reminds me of 'Ian Brown -Time Is My Everything'
Pre-vocal reminds me of 'New Order - Ceremony/Procession'

Looks like the Mrs was pretty damn close to the mark then as she noticed the, er, Floydian slip in the sound on that tune too.

It strikes me somewhere between Gilmour and Harrison.

Well I think so - listen to the guitar after he sings ' confidential' the first time
Yeah, I thought that too.

They reference themselves too, Tokyo Skyline having some Red Rubber-ishness and 30YOW being a bit Don't Be Evil.
