I have to say im glad it was quite an accessible album. At the time I was listening to all these quite detailed arty albums and the Manics produced the right album for me at the right time

The 2 Positives + of Send Away The Tigers =
Revitalised the band and it allowed them to make Journal For Plague Lovers, which was ace. The 2 Negatives - of Send Away The Tigers = Awful, awful artwork and most of the songs are paper-thin. The 2 Best Tracks from Send Away The Tigers Send Away The Tigers, The Second Great Depression. The 2 Worst Tracks from Send Away The Tigers Autumnsong, Underdogs.

+ Great tour

Two positives;
At its best it has a real swagger. Revitalised the band, both to themselves and to the public. Two negatives; The average standard of the lyrics was lower than any other Manics album. The over-saturation of string sections to hide how weak some of the tracks were. Two best songs; Imperial Bodybags Indian Summer Two worst songs; I'm Just A Patsy Working Class Hero (or Autumnsong if that doesn't count). |

Oh, one more negative;
All the hate aimed at the completely ace 'Winterlovers' - one of the best guitar solos on the album for a start. |

The 2 Positives + of Send Away The Tigers:
*It seemed to do the band a lot of good in re-energising themselves and allowed them to go on to do JFPL. *The album was well-received, particularly YLAINE, which is what they needed after Lifeblood and led to a successful tour. The 2 Negatives - of Send Away The Tigers: *Once I got passed the initial excitement of the album, there's not much depth to it and I'm quite bored of it now. *The lyrics were pretty poor by Manics' standards, particularly Autumnsong. The 2 Best Tracks from Send Away The Tigers: *Send Away The Tigers *Your Love Alone Is Not Enough The 2 Worst Tracks from Send Away The Tigers: *Underdogs *I'm Just a Patsy |

The 2 Positives + of Send Away The Tigers
Wire's ironic lyrics to certain songs, & that the band seemed to be having a lot of fun recording. The 2 Negatives - of Send Away The Tigers Track selection, Welcome to the Dead Zone should have rounded it out. (Although may not have been written & recorded at that stage) They never performed Love Letter to the Future live. The 2 Best Tracks from Send Away The Tigers Rendition Patsy The 2 Worst Tracks from Send Away The Tigers Underdogs Autumnsong I've just noticed that the opening of the title track reminds me of Kenickie's Punka.

+ Commercial success, which was the band's aim
+ Gave the band renewed confidence and allowed them to record JFPL, something which would never have occurred had SATT been a commercial failure - Rubbish lyrics in a number of songs - Lack of variation in song structures (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus) + Indian Summer + Underdogs - Autumnsong - The Second Great Depression I still listen to SATT a fair bit, I find it to be an excellent throwaway sort of record when I'm in a good mood! |

It reminded me that I really liked the Manics. The success gave them more confidence and I doubt Journal would have happened without it. --- Most of the songs sounded tired pretty quickly. Poor lyrics. Best songs The Second Great Depression (by a mile) Send Away the Tigers Worst songs Autumnsong Underdogs |

+ Re-energised the band and gave them back real belief in what they do.
+ JDB getting the freedom to play that guitar again. - Some fabulous B-Sides (I actually think 'Your Love Alone...' has possibly the best suite of B-sides the boys have ever made) wasted as such especially when compared to weaker album tracks. - Tracks a bit too streamlined, structures become stale and predictable where they could have been developed a bit more. Two Best Songs: (1) Rendition, (2) The Second Great Depression Two Worst Songs: (1) I'm Just A Patsy, (2) Winterlovers The second of my criticisms is a fear I have for the band in general. Even with my total satisfaction with the previous two albums, the band seem fixated with delivering shorter, stripped down and basic three minute songs. This doesn't allow some of their real creativity to shine through and leave some otherwise brilliant songs seeming a little underdeveloped. I mean, compare 'Archives of Pain' with anything from Journal - Journal sounds snappy and exciting, but lacks that grander artistic expression. |

Boxes & Lists always struck me as a track that would go down well live.
