..we joked about Steps and It's Not War but they basically copied so much of that David Axelrod track. We all know the Manics like openly paying homage or using influences which is great but when you just take great slices of someone elses work...that's a real shame especially when it's so beautiful as well. Wouldn't surprise me with The Last Time then. Anyway...
David Axelrod was credited as a co-writer though wasn't he?

A Design for Life

waltz time signature, instrumental solo, weird jazzy chords... all incredibly un-Manic and a hit not quite matched since.

Too good for them. They've blatantly stolen someone else's obscure song and stuck a JDB cameo over the top of it, hoping that no one ever notices. (A bit like Rewind the Film.)
The band have ackowledged they used the music and re-recorded it for RTF.

Ah I didn't know, hadn't heard of the connection before (or maybe too ignorant to notice in the credits!) Since we don't have credits for The Last Time I Saw Paris I guess we'll have to keep on guessing, though if it is an obscure piece I hope it's been adapted etc. Thanks for clearing that up though, my bad

if they copied something note for note and didn't credit it they'd be sued into oblivion. If there's no additional credits for the last time I saw Paris then that means they wrote it

Hibernation for me sounds slightly atypical of them.

EWYS wins though.

Inky Fingers is a very atypical one to me. In terms of sound, of course. The lyrics are quite Nickyish.

Maybe less so now, but when they were released I'd say the Vorticists and You Know It's Going To Hurt. Maybe Engage with your shadow.

"I'm Not Working" sounds very Un-Manics to me.
