I remembered, earlier in the morning when Mr. Selfdestruct reminded me about Ian Curtis. I just went 'Oh the day when JFPL was released, cool'
fantastic record, my favourite tracks are WLW, Stephen Hawking and Pretension/Repulsion

I loved it then, I love it now. One of the MSP albums I treasure the most (then again, I adore most of the albums and love the rest - though some few songs more take the form of a love/hate relationship).
What gripped me most though was the music(al form), which, in MSP terms was quite innovative. I found it somewhat curious that they had to use 13+ year old lyrics to bring about such a change in stylistic direction. Maybe they felt they needed an excuse to depart from the pop formula. I'll admit the lyrics suit the music though, and the music suits them. It wasn't a SATT II, and that made me more than happy.

The interesting thing is, though, if this experience brought the band enough closure about "the Richey dilemma", enabling the Wire to finally step out of the shadow of the past and establish himself/gain ground as a lyricist of another composition. People should stop appraising him to Richey. They're different styles, mostly incomparable. "I was his biggest fan", blah-blah. Even the Wire himself must be cured of the Richey syndrome. He's more than fine on his own.
/end rant.

Still love it. VSEC came on my iPhone this morning and I was blown away. Same with Marlon JD and all those cool little tracks.
For those of us who joined post-90s (I was a KYE guy really) It's great to be part of an album release that was so critically aclaimed.

I'm not listening to it that much now, but when I do I like it. My favourite song isn't on the album though - Vision Blurred which I still think is absolutely awesome.

Fuck me. Is it really a year?! That went so fast. I really love JFPL. 3rd fave, after EMG and TIMTTMY.

Excellent album as has been said. A band in what many would call their twighlight years, pulling an album like that out the bag defied all critics. I would have the album third behind THB and EMG, just edging Lifeblood into fourth spot.
I am both dreading and excited for the next album, I just hope its not another SATT. |

When it was first released I was blown away, and would have placed it as my third fave manics album. Now it's definitely second, sometimes giving THB a run for it's money. As was said previously it was nice to be part of an album the fans and critics alike were waiting for with excitement, and it still surpassed expectations. Probably one of my favourite albums of the last decade, the noughties were poor as a whole, JFPL ruled.
