From memory, the only thing said (other than “the songs are great”) was that one of the singles was a Nicky-sung one Kieron considered amongst the best they’ve done. Nicky remarked on this as “Intimisim goes Global” which I don’t know if was a jokey reference to his 2nd solo album or suggesting one of the new album songs is an Intimism song

Also editing the D&C video currently.

Can’t remember if they confirmed Critical Thinking as an album title or not, but that’s somewhat known now anyway

I quite like it and like the sound of the guitar on it, but honestly thought the piano would have been left with UVL. Would have preferred it without the piano bits really.

Ah thanks, could do without Nicky singing to be honest!

Thought the new song was fine, but just that. I did keep waiting for it to soar a bit more, or for James to launch into an outrageous solo but instead it plodded comfortably along like a steam train chuffing up a steep hill. Sounded very 'Postcards'-era to mine ears.

Hearing better today. There's backing vocals on it right? I got So Why So Sad flashbacks. It's like a composite of Manics singles I like.
The beauty of stuff just unfolding the more you listen. I think we might get various era Manics cut and pasted in the new songs. Or maybe not!
There's a lyric video up but that's been made by a YouTuber with a channel specialising in those lyric videos regardless of artist.
Looking forward to the video for Decline&Fall!

Yeah I would agree there, they sounded very inspired and creative to my ears. In contrast, RIF ended up being my least favourite Manics album to date! I still have faith they can bring out some great tracks in future though.

I have tried with this song but not for me. AI Manics. Uninspiring typical lyric, drum machine boring, and guitar work very obvious.

On a song-by-song basis I really like RiF, especially compared to SATT, PFAYM and TUVL, but... I'm just not very excited about a future where all of their albums are a mixture of the elements of those four records.

Who knows. This album could be another GATS/EMG, where the big poppy singles are contrasted with as many darker, rawer album tracks, or it could be the equivalent of them leading TIMTTMY with 'You Stole the Sun'. That's my hope, anyway.

After 20 listening I can really say single (decline&fall) is different from RIF, TUVL era. It has today's production tools, more energetic, more proper to new generations ears.. It is Manicsy but in a new sound with no nostaltically way. It is ABBA meets to The Clash but not like as a 80's or 90's band. I love it.

I love it now haha. So fresh and upbeat. On Spotify it's NO.5 on the Manics top 10 with over 140k plays... I must have done about 30 of those so far

Kieran Evans has just posted some potential Decline & Fall music video screenshots on Instagram. Looks like the same old visualiser rubbish. Looks like there is no money left for decent videos.

I gave it several listens and i like it more now but can't say i'm that fussed on the new track. I'm struggling to pinpoint exactly why though because james sounds great and i really like the energy of it but it's got a bit of orwellian in there and i don't like that either. I'm expecting it to soar after the solo but it transitions into that extremely awkward break which saps the energy. Didn't we get the secret he had missed as the second release from the last album? I adore that so here's hoping!
