Happy Birthday Indian Summer!
The bit in the video where Nicky kicks then catches a football near James's head is still funny.

There can't be many days of the year that isn't an anniversary of something Manics based?

e.g. Today is the second anniversary of seeing the Ultravivid Lament tour at Manchester! Bliming love the Apollo as a venue.

And it still seems like TUVL was just released yesterday. This time next year we'll probably be into their new album and maybe even tour. It's all happening even if it seems like nothing's going on.

"Give us a smile!". That was my one line in a film about sexual harassment this evening. I wore my Everything Must Go top. And pulled my jacket tight so "THING" was visible.
Not a bad idea, right? Yeah. They filmed me from the back.

It looks to me like they're lining up the standard summer festival circuit before releasing the autumn album with autumn tour (and James cold)

If that's the case will they at all think about throwing the lead single from the new album in to the set?

All this recent talk of Withdrawn Traces got me thinking... I've never actually read any book about the Manics and based all of my knowledge about the band from scans of old articles found on the web.
Now, could you guys recommend me some titles? What I'm looking for in particular are the tidbits and trivia that you won't find on places like Wikipedia etc. Any help here?

I don’t think there’s any one Manics book which is held up high in Manics circles tbh. There were a couple in the 90s (Sweet Venom? being one) but they’d be well out of date now.

The Jenni Insardi (?) book will probably have loads of non-Wiki stuff in it but it’s also likely to be a huge chunk of fiction.

Despite its flaws and the author, I think Everything by Simon Price is still probably seen as the best Manics book. Again the band have disputed some parts and I haven’t read it for years so it might’ve aged badly, but it’s probably the best.

Thanks, I'll probably start with Everything then! I don't mind it not being up to date, as I'm mostly interested in their early years.

EDIT: I found Sweet Venom for GBP 0.20 on Amazon and bit the bullet.

Everything is your best bet, despite some inaccuracies the band have hinted at. Sweet Venom's not bad from memory and you can't complain at 20p. In Their Own Words is another bargain at 15p and worth it purely for a decent selection of quotes from the early days.

The Isnardi-Watkins book... I did buy it when it came out, she manages to miraculously recall whole conversations from 10-15 years before, no real way of telling what's accurate and what's not. Pretty dull with no major revelations / info anyway, all a bit fan fiction-y.

Also avoid Nick Wise's book, full of mistakes.

No idea what this is.

Very random and not particularly Manicsy.

Edit: Barcelona sometime between the 6th - 9th November. Weird.

Looks like a well paid corporate style gig, with the added bonus of a weekend in Barcelona for Wire.
