Nope, it's the opposite. a 12" record cut at 45 RPM will result in wider grooves and, generally, a wider soundstage.

An example would be KYE...which was pressed entirely on to 2 sides of a 12". The only way that could POSSIBLY fit is if it was at 33RPM in order to fit like 30 mins of music on a side. This resulted in TINY narrow grooves (which result in more skips and a "thinner" sound). It was terrible.

Got my vinyl today. Nice that there's a big booklet in there, but my only gripe is there's so many blank pages, they could have put in the write-up that is in the CD booklet.

Its a reprint of the booklet that came with the original vinyl, albeit on less nice paper.

I’m excited to get the deluxe cd and the vinyl.
I think over the years, know your enemy and lifeblood are my two most listened to albums by the band. The first, as my favorite, makes sense to be on top. I love everything about KYE, the era, the bsides, everything.
But for lifeblood… I never considered it to be one of my favorites. Yet here it is, twenty years later, always there. I guess it means it’s my second favorite Manics album. Anyone else “realized” this recently?

LB reissue made me realize that I don't like Lifeblood. I ADORE Lifeblood.

That third disc is easily the most interesting demo disc they've put out. It also really shows off how important the production and arrangements are to the songs, so many have comparatively little promise compared to their final versions. Fascinating stuff.

I actually think (just to play devil's advocate a little bit) that the weird demos show they were pretty uninspired during this period and really didn't know what to do with the songs. I think a lot of things happened during the production stage maybe with more input.

It's apparently no.9 on the album chart, but come Friday's end of week chart I think it'll be about 15 or something. Still, good for an album 20 years old!

And even at 9 it's still the highest it's charted. Will pick up the standard edition next few days.

I absolutely love this era for b-sides, some of them rank among my favourites they've ever done.

I agree with this, I think the lack of success with Visconti demonstrates it strongly. I think the decision to bring in Visconti was that they wanted a strong producer to override their doubts and indecision. However his versions of songs are quite production light, and it would be my guess that he thought the band should know what they want after six albums, and just let them at it. Solitude Sometimes Is is probably the best example of this, where you can see the minimal progression from demo to Visconti , and everything crystalises on the album. It's a shame really because Lifeblood is the last album with a strong production. Everything else after has bounded between middle of the road (Dave Eringa) or minimalistic (Steve Albini and Alex Silva).

They seem to be everywhere from what I can gather. They're on the streaming versions. I suspect they come from a streaming rip (possibly the same one that ended up here back in the day!).

Oh wow, am I really the only one listening to actual CDs..? Yes, the skips are there (but I'm having a great time with the set so who cares?).
