Ireland only gets two (or maybe three) 'woahs' in Tolerate in comparison to the 'Aaaaaahs!'. The original version was coming back to James briefly!

Sounding a bit out of puff for Postcards though!

Irish presenters told to speak over the Manics after Nicky's Cameron/Clegg rant!

James apologising for his voice.

This made me laugh a lot when i saw it last night. The idea of Nicky ranting about UK politics on the main stage at Oxegen i find hilarious, as I've been at it enough and know what the crowd are like, most of the time.

When New Order played at it a few years ago, Bernard Sumner said something along the lines of ''It's such lovely summers evening in this beautiful Country of ours''. He then quickly corrected himself, but in a way that i knew he was taking the piss. I laughed, but only he could get away with that.

I have to say I felt really embarrassed for the band yesterday at Oxegen. It was my 21st time seeing the guys and I honestly couldn't believe how poorly received they were by the audience. Their appearance was totally irrelevant, nobody cared and their half assed performance and James' vocal problems did very little to help them earn the crowd over.

Having said that, I do think it was a mistake on the part of MCD for putting them on the main stage, they didn't belong there particularly when the audience was made up of primarily of folks wanting to see Beyonce and Coldplay.

All in all I think the Manics will be licking their wounds after two hideous festival appearances this weekend which is sad to see, but the writing has been on the wall for them for quite a while in my opinion. It's one thing trudging through the same old songs every tour in front of their own fans who will inevitably put up with it, but when their apathy and lack of interest in their performance seeps into a festival audience and the likes of 'casual fan favourite' design for life barely musters a cheer from them then you know something is fundamentally wrong!

James' voice was in tatters, he sang loads of the higher notes falsetto and apologised at the end of the set for doing so. I've never heard him sounding worse in fairness.

@Irishmanic Don't be downhearted about how they were received at Oxegen. If one was to do a survey, he/she would probably find that out of the 60,000 or whatever figure it was in the end, that attended Oxegen, about 20% of them were actual music fans. The rest just went to see famous people on the main stage.
They could stick Westlife on stage and it would go down well.

Arcade Fire had a small crowd headlining last year. I saw a pic of The National who played the second stage late on one of the days this year. It looked like there was about 20 people at it!
Nine Inch Nails last ever Irish gig was at the second stage there a couple of years ago and there was only about 200 people at it.

My brother was there and he enjoyed it. He wouldn't be into the manics at all. And according to him Slash was a worse line up choice before beyonce, as a load of women got shoved round by big metallers moshin.
