I probably should have put an an end-date on the poll before Manorbier and left that for another poll in the future... never mind.

I think Manorbier is great, but it wouldn't change my vote for The Vorticists.

I don't get people who hate all instrumentals, do they get tetchy during guitar solos?

Lyrics/words/vocals are of course a massive part of the Manics' work, but sometimes I think it's nice to just focus on the music, and it's hardly a large proportion of their tracks that are without lyrics.

I don't usually listen to Manics's instrumentals but when I do I listen to See It Like Sutherland

I really like Ostopolitik. Manics instrumentals are always great.

Why do people call it Ostopolitik? When did that start? On the CD single cover it is clearly called Ostpolitik. Which is a word, whereas Ostopolitik certainly isn't. Does anyone know where the "alternative" spelling crept in?
Same with "The Vortices" (not a word) when the Autumsong 7" gives the title as "The Vorticists".
Are mislabelled mp3s from apple/amazon to blame? (sorry for the boring digression!)

Not boring, perfectly fair comment. I have no idea why I misspelled Ostpolitik in the poll, I hang my virtual head in shame

The Vorticists being named wrongly on the download versions annoys me too, making my typo even worse. Although 'vortices' is actually a word, a plural of vortex, so perhaps an automated spell-checker was to blame.

I swear that it actually is 'Ostopolitik'. The 'correct' spelling might have just been a misprint on the CD single, a la the 'Wyndam/Wyndham Lewis' thing on the back of the SATT lyrics booklet. It would make more sense as well, not being a word. This is the same band who gave you the apostrophe in 'Ifwhiteamerica...', remember

And the first mention on the FD, via the Manics' Twitter:

http://foreverdelayed.org.uk/forum/s...&postcount=540

It says 'Ostopolitik' on my iTunes download too. I am sorry, my sheer pedant side is taking over here.

tl;dr: To all intents and purposes it probably should be called 'Ostpolitik' but the confusion around the name has stemmed from the Manics' own silliness.

The iTunes spelling means diddly-squat, as does twitter, IMHO. I think bachelorette is right, I think the title is Ostpolitik like it's spelt on the CD single release.

They should be more careful when communicating instrumental b-sides' titles anyway!

Of course it is, I forgot that! That explains a lot!

I love pedantic, niggly arguments like this, it's message boards were intended for! And your argument is persuasive, especially as the Manics do have a tendency for purposefully weird spellings.

Thanks for your comments, you two!

Something I just don't get: how can The Vorticists coexist with Autumnsong?

My vote goes to YKIGTH.

Even after the release of Futurology, it's still See It Like Sutherland for me.

Manorbier, a close second.

Definitely Dreaming A City now that Futurology has been released, all the style and tempo changes. Still a big fan of Manorbier though and always had a soft spot for Horses Under Starlight with Sean's trumpet solo n all.

Dreaming A City has been stuck in my head on a loop for days now!

Before Futurology was "the vorticists" my favorite but for now is Dreaming a City and Mayakovski. I hate Manorbier.

I voted Ostopolitik (this spelling used as it appears this way on Spotify).
