And when they use it in the verse and chorus of a song, I think about joining ISIS.

Lol, okay. Clearly a number of people in this thread share my opinion, so you not finding it a deal doesn't really change that. I can't say I've been bothered much by other artists.

Exactly, there are plenty of good songs out there that don't simply repeat the title, or even don't have the title in them. The manics seem to focus live on songs that do just repeat the title, even if they have others that don't.

That's because most of the title repeating songs are the singles as the majority of the record buying public will, suprise suprise (no repetition pun intended), remember songs that repeat a line easier than those that don't. As the Manics fill their setlists with singles then a lot of the live songs will have a repeated title.

I saw James Dean Bradfield in Tesco's a few times and each time he was buying 1X Marlboro Lights and 1X Butcher's Sausages and that was it.

If he was solely living on that, then the question is not why he looked so unwell at times, but why didn't look worse.

On the point of the criticism, I think most of this is so bileful and ott that it just makes you laugh. Repetition in choruses/lyrics is definitely a feature, but in the better lyrics is made up for by good verses. And it is often remedied by very good melodies, or at least a convincing vocal delivery. But then a) the Manics are probably not going to win a Pulitzer Price and time soon and b) haters gonna hate.

About repeating choruses. While sometimes it is an easier way to get your song to be commercially successful, speaking in general, repetition is also a common tool in poetry. Sometimes, to strenghten the impact things need be repeated, like in Tolerate, for example. True, that's one of their most commercial songs ever, but seriously that chorus HAD to be repeated to add all the drama to point out the seriousness and sadness and danger of what's been criticised in the song.

I think the repetitions also express manicness and disorder. I think it makes the lyrics sincere and has a sense of despair. I always like how the Manics show political impact on life in repeating verses over like ADFL. I think repetition also makes a point of freeness in songs that the Manics and other bands do and famously like Nirvana's In Utero album.
