Great to hear the new single which sounded great but to be honest James sounded bored during the second half of the gig.
Also what the fuck is that intro to Tsunami?

My setlist guess above was almost right! (Though not in order). Just no Faster, This is Yesterday, or Walk me to the Bridge. Will catch up on iplayer later.

Just watching back the set as forgot it live. Opening song Your Love Alone... the keyboard / synth whatever is WAY too high in the mix in the chorus, and you can hear Wayne singing wrong backing vocals too several times, or was it in fact James getting the words wrong? Haha Wow. Although if you listen to just the audio recording it's fine, but the TV live version sound mix was AWFUL.
Edit, just watched it again, it is indeed James singing the wrong lines, watch for Nicky shaking his head haha. Edit 2: Didn't like the fact James didn't sing the line in Motorcycle saying little shit, or in Tsunami changing several words. Just don't play them if you're gonna do this

My only criticism and this has been for a while now , why can’t James sing A Design for life properly anymore ?

Listened to a few snippets.
- Decline and Fall is still Decline and Fall. It's an ear worm but the instrumentation just seems uninspired. - Really liked the build up intro for Tsunami, those chords sounds much nicer on guitar than keyboard. - James has really got to cut down on bending the guitar bridge on songs, I can see one of them snapping these days. - James's voice seemed a bit fragile, hope it's temporary. - Did Sean tape his VIP pass to his shoulder because he keeps being confused for a roadie? - Please mix up the setlist next tour, time to show some love to JFPL, KYE, F and RTW.

That was a tough gig for the band. Thought James really tried hard considering the people looked miserable and the place was a muck fest.
Also thought the guitar sound was pretty awful on iPlayer. Too overdriven and thin. But maybe it sounded really good there. And finally thought the new song was pretty average sound wise and performance wise. Nicky looked really really bored and disconnected throughout. |

And out of interest, while waiting for them to upload the set, I watched the 2018 Radio 2 performance and it was the same songs minus D and F obviously and the RiF songs! Ha!

Well, I've dried out now. The weather was awful and when we arrived there were quite a lot of people leaving. Setlist was a bit dull but James in particular gave it a go and at least they moved the songs around. I do wish they would be less 90s, though I suppose it was 9 songs to a R2 audience. Decline and Fall sounded good and, for me, better than on record as the guitar riff was higher in the mix. Enjoyed it overall although it isn't the same in the pouring rain. Mark Radcliffe introduced and said the new album was out early next year.
Pet Shop Boys afterwards was great, just hit after hit.

I assume if you're seeing Nicky smile on stage then he's probably just popped a few painkillers for his back pain.

Didn't quite work did it? I'm glad though that they are playing around a bit with the arrangements in some of the songs, although the newly added quiet bit towards the end of La Tristesse doesn't really work for me.

Taking a peek around at this whole thing on iPlayer. Fran Healy looks like he's lost his mind somewhere in recent years, and I found the description of Shed Seven as "britpop survivors" hilarious.
The first time the camera shot to Sean I thought "ah fuck, they've got a replacement drummer, I wonder what happened to Sean?" Good to see that "And if you need an explanation / cuz everything must go" still winds me up, but when did James start singing "Wah design for life"? Decline and Fall... eh, it's still ok. Coming in straight after ADFL puts it at such a disadvantage here, though, it feels so lightweight in comparison. Just realised that Tolerate is the only song I can think of where I know the drum fills as well as the rest of the song. |

Aye, James has been singing "waaaah design for life" for years now, it's wound me up for a decade now, easily. Nicky just looks like he can't be arsed anymore, especially when James sang two wrong lines in YLAINE and he shook his head.
