That is decadence.

Prologue To History is now reading the papers (and the business section), checking out the TESSAs and the pensions, while the other b-sides shine its shoes.

Worthiest winner EVAR.

Is Prologue to History the Wirest of all Wire lyrics?

Must be up their with Mr. Carbohydrate. Or Close My Eyes. I'm sure there are a few others lurking about as other b-sides.

I don't think it's that good really. I think everyone loves it as it's part of the Tolerate single. It's a great wee rocker though.

So for near 20 years I've always thought the chorus on Montana was:

Your friends are the new game,
They know what you mean but not what you do
Nice shot, take care of itself
Your ego will destroy itself

Good! It's actually really difficult to pick a least favourite now.

I must concede I have a very strained relationship to The Everlasting: I love most of it (the lyrics are outstanding), but the chorus is one of the most depressing and soporific dirges they've ever written. But then there's that wondrous solo that comes in at 3.45 and builds and builds... Oh, I don't know.

It doesn't help that Nicky saying they only chose it as a single because the title reminded them of Blur's The Universal and similar song names has always irked me.

The Stealth Sonic Orchestra remix of it is utterly beautiful though.

The song is of its time. It's very much of that post-britpop late 90s melancholic vain.

I would never go out of my way to listen to it, but it has a very cool chord structure and the solo is fantastic. The Jools Holland version is worth a listen to now and again.

I've been voting for the everlasting to go. All those live acoustic versions have put me off

Whereas the version of Ready For Drowning with John Cale saves that song for me (for now).
