Why not just post the entire gig to their Youtube channel??? Save on physically releasing it

Surprised no one asked them about this at the signing the other day. I wanted to ask but didn't get the opportunity.

Why anyone would want a live album from a band who haven't been particularly exciting live for years now is beyond me.

That said, I wouldn't mind some sort of recording of the O2 gig, if only for the archival of the handful of songs they've not played in years and will probably never wheel out again after the gig.

I think I would like a document of the actual event more than anything, the promise of special guests, possibly a string section and the fact that it'll be more overblown than any gig they've done since the Millenium concert has to be worth filming.

If it does happen, it'll have to be on two DVDs, look at the shit quality of the ultra-compressed footage on the NT DVD - someone needs their head checking for trying to squeeze over 40 videos onto a single DVD.

Pretty exciting live to me....more so than say 2001. nicky dresses more crazy, moves more, james spins a lot.....i think if they got someone decent to film it (see sigur ros films for example), and did some nice non-show footage which is more than just the boys walking around blackwood, it could be good.

James voice is not as good live though anymore, I'd buy it but never play it as I'm not a lover of watching live on DVD.

Yeah but those have nothing to do with the sound which is the only thing you hear on a live album, which I commented on. The setlists are more or less the same all the time and the performances are identical time and time again. A live DVD or so might be far better because you actually watch the band etc, but in pure audio form they're not so interesting/immensely strong these days as to warrant a live album. Unless it's wanted just for the sake of having one in the catalogue.

A live DVD would be perfect, it's a huge gig for them and covers their career. A 2 DVD set would be amazing and I'd watch it all the time!! They've been filmed a lot in the past year on TV for shows and full gigs so I hope they film this, they'll never be a gig like this again especially with so many fans there.
They should get an independant company to film it, Ocean Colour Scene had a gig filmed earlier this year which comes out in a few weeks on limited edition DVD by a company from Wigan I believe on a 10 camera shoot called NyQuest Ltd. Can't wait for that, so maybe the Manics could go this way themselves? Forget Sony, they won't even let No Manifesto get released when we're all dead and buried!

You forgot the fact that Nicky has a so-called "film-maker" in the family. He would be able to knock it out to them for free.

From now on, my nightmares will be filled with the idea of a PattyJo-directed concert film.

I asked the manager martin hall about it whilst in the queue and he said that the band dont enjoy it as much when its being filmed as they would need rehearsals and to be filmed backstage, but then said to ask them directly as they might have a different answer, which I was going to do, but didnt get chance with security hushing people out quickly.

Guess that means it won't be filmed then. That's a real shame.

That's just daft. They could have at least streamed in Vevo or something.
The Guardian have been doing a pay-per-view for live gig streams recently - even that would have been a start.

I guess if Martin Hall is correct, you'll all have to make do with the pro-shot footage of the embarrassingly lifeless festival performances* that they always allow to be shown on national TV.

*I'm talking about the crowds... mostly.
