TLORN is a fucking great tune. I'm not so sure of it as a lead single (JEsus fucking christ who the fuck overlooked fucking 1985???? FUCK ME!) but its got some great lyrics in there - "Richard the third in the White House / Cowering behind divided curtains" is a great image ffs.

Those who don't appreciate it are cnuts (says Sean).

One of the worst scanning lines of lyric in MSP history

Up there with "Libraries gave us power" (I don't disagree with the sentiment, but you can't get a two syllable word like 'Power' into that space without making it sound like pahhhh"

Nixon has grown on me recently, looking forward to hearing it live again at the O2. The lyrics are average and the title is pretty clumsy, but it's a good tune and the production's great. Shouldn't have been a comeback single though.

My five top Manics singles (since everyone else has started on this!)

1. A Design For Life - glorious, majestic, deserves its place as arguably the best known Manics song.
2. Stay Beautiful - 3 minutes of pure anger and joy at the same time, can't describe it but I never get tired of listening to it. Probably even better live.
3. Postcards From A Young Man - A song that gets a lot of unfair criticism, not the best time for it to be released as a single - had it been released 14 years earlier it would have gone straight into the top 5 at the very least.
4. Roses In The Hospital - Funky but at the same time a typical sounding Manics song. Love it to bits, even though the opening notes of the vocal melody are pretty much identical to the music from Bubble Bobble......
5. From Despair To Where - Absolutely superb, one of the best James vocals. Deserved a higher chart placing, also loved the JDB solo version in 2006.

Time to get positive. These are my five favourite songs from disc 2 of National Treasures, i.e. stuff that can be salvaged from the glorified bonus disc of stinking offal.

01. Tolerate
02. YLAINE
03. Masses
04. Fuck, did I say top five?
04. Ok, stick with me, I can do this...
04. Seriously, FUCK!!
04. Fine, Found That Soul
05. Let Robeson Sing

The mods should rename this thread:

"Let's all slag off everything released since 1996 in order to show what hardcore fans we are"

I did my 5 worst earlier.

Best:

Little Baby Nothing
Faster
Life Becoming a Landslide
The Everlasting
M*A*S*H
Kevin Carter...oh crap, that's six
(Oh, and a mention to DFL, it's just so overplayed that I can't have it in my top five anymore.)

Should have been singles:
Removables
Sleepflower
Nobody Loved You
1985
Condemned to Rock n Roll
(Obviously the entirety of Journal as well, but that goes without saying)

One track from each of the six albums released after 1996 that would have made disc 2 a little less dreadful to sit through.

01. Ready For Drowning
02. Solitude Sometimes Is
03. My Guernica
04. Marlon JD
05. Golden Platitudes
06. Imperial Bodybags
