The volume always goes up when Marlon comes on!

fucking fantastic album..i love it to bits.
When they announced they were doing this i trusted their judgement and didn't believe the complaints that this was just going to be a poor attempt at recreating past glories. It was like James said when he got the lyrics for ADFL.. The music HAD to be good. Saying that while i was waiting for Zane Lowe to play peeled apples i suddenly lost all confidence and felt sick thinking *please dont be shit please dont be shit* Then that bass line kicked in and i just knew i was going to LOVE this album. I played the radio rip over 60 times and never got sick of it. I printed off every article and review i could find whereas for PFAYM while i think its a great album it hasnt given me the buzz that JFPL did. My favourite track is Facing Page Top Left i think tho it changes all the time..sometimes its WLW depends on my mood. Its utterly criminal i'm never going to hear FPTL live again. James has to breathe apparently...bah excuses! Marlon J.D was great live and i adore the chorus to VSEC ..catchy as fuck |

I love it. second favourite album after THB, but I've listened to it more times over the past year than I can count. I love how much people got into it as well - it felt like it really woke up a section of the audience after things had gotten a bit stale.

I bought this when it was released and hated it. Completely. I was disappointed because I never thought I could feel that way about a Manics album. I put it in a draw and never listened to it again until this week. To say it has grown on me is an understatement. Like THB I find it haunting & hard to listen to. I will never 'love' it but I can appreciate it.
I love Jackie Collins, Facing Page Top Left, Joke Sport and Peeled Apples (which is such a great title IMO!). |

This Joke Sport Severed is the template for a perfect manics song.
To see them do that at the roundhouse with orchestra.... wow...

Possibly my favourite Manics album, for different reasons to Tigers. The only song I hate is VSEC. Everything else is just clever, brilliant rock. With some actual plugging and proper airplay this album could have been their 'mass communication'. Think they missed a massive trick in thinking this wouldn't have been a commercial smash. |

Did it survive past the original whole album JFPL tours?

No. I begged James to play it in USA but he said he didn't want me to be the only person clapping. Think they played it the first two nights and expected a bigger crowd reaction. What did he expect? It's not a jumpy/shouty kinda song...

Have to add this, in the top 5 Manics songs easily. I hate Small Black Flowers but Facing Page is that song done a million times better.

It sounds empty, despite the lyrics being good I dislike how it's sang, it sounds overdramatic and unsuibtable to me pretty much. I should add I am not a fan of EMG as an album though, handful of good songs, bad production, naff lyrics for the most part...
Facing Page could sound like that too, but it doesn't, it is sang and fits so amazingly well in tone.

I apparently have bad Manics taste, so I can relate (TIMT/GATS are the best albums *shifty eyes*).
